I have a TJ series 2 Advance. I have been considering purchasing a Powerchip upgrade at a cost of $990, which is supposed to boost KW from the standard 155 to a max of 172.

Has anyone had any experience with this, or any suggestions regarding an alternative to Powerchip?

Thanks in advance.

Stop - do not pass go, do not collect $200. There was a member here who tried one of these, it made no difference. He had dyno charts to prove and got his money back, but it was still an expensive lesson. Search for the thread... Its here somewhere.

Unichip - they are actually dyno'ed to suit your car. More expensive, but a decent alternative to a 'one size fits all' computer projected power output.

yeh that was me his talking about.... please dont waste your time.. there rubbish... they do have there money back guarentee.... to get this i had to spend my own money proving that it did nothing.. this consisted of one dyno run with and without the chip.. i was then asked to send back the chip and dyno charts... they then returned it to me telling me that the wrong map was loaded and that it will be good now.. i refitted and found no difference.. i was then required to do another dyno run and once again return it with the dyno charts.... they only then agreed to refund me MINUS a $200 restocking fee..... there rubbish but they know that less than 1% of their customers will ever go to the extent i did to prove that.. and even when i did prove it that still made $200 out of me... :doubt:

that sux man!!

i had a uni chip (edit: POWERCHIP) in my getz and that did do something... it made it go slightly quicker than a stock getz lol i had 18's on mine and when i changed to stockys it went even quicker again...

and it ran on 91 even though they said 98 only... but really all they did was advance the timing a couple of degrees...

which on a magna is a $15mod lol

unichips are good.. as you get a live tune on a dyno for each individual car..

the powerchip is some generic tune rubbish.. it probably is one of those resistors they sell on ebay for $15 which is claims to give you 15HP or whatever...

to the original poster.. spend the $1200 and get a unichip.. they have proven time and time again to give decent results

as for taking them to court.. meh... couldnt be bothered...yeh they got $200 out of me... but if they knew how many ppl ive talked out of getting Powerchips for there cars they be sorry they did...

well i definatly wouldnt get one again....

it did make a difference to my hyundai, but it also wasted more fuel afterwards to the tune of 2L/100km and thats very noticeable in a car that gets 6L/100km lol

difference to note is my car was fitted at their head office and they had a little play with settings on it, and if you get it fitted by a dealer it's just a chip that arrives set in a plastic bag and that all...

kinda like the sprintex setup really, im sure if my car was installed by them it would have bee tuned better than down here...

but i still have to note that the powerchip even when fitted by them dosent get dynoed and custom tuned...

the money would be way better spent on extractors etc...

i was sitting in the powerchip office for 2hours while they reflashed my hyundais ecu... the director of the company who i was talking to was asking me about the car etc... and he mentioned that he was able to play with the tune that they put on the ecu and said that its different to what they would normally flash on to the chip...

edit.... ahh im my op i said unichip.... i ment powerchip lol sorry
