I was on a mission this afternoon! Went to Pick 'n' Payless in Blacktown. Not a great selection of Magna's, but managed to find a single KS Elite with lots of bits still present. Scavenged some Interior lights, good condition muffler, new ashtray and black boot garnish. I regret i didnt take door pods with built-in speakers, but had both missing courtesy light. Also the climate control unit i left because it was partly broken. Was in good condition apart from a broken demister button.

Each to their own i guess. Havent decided whether to use just the needles or use the italic backing as well. I have no green gear 'D' light on the dash, does each one have its own bulb??

Also some Q's about the new lights.

Can i be sure that there are the mounts behind the roof lining for this map light?

Same question for the centre light, will it fit once i have cut back the rooflining? Also, i plugged new one in to the power socket. The main light worked, but the little left/right passenger spot lights did not. I swapped the bulbs with ones i know that work, but what could be stopping them working?

That cluster is from a 4cyl TR Elite and wont be any good with a V6 magna, the speedo wont line up.

Im pretty sure the middle lights need to be earthed to the metal for the side ones to work.
And yes, they will fit, Front and middle, Just take it damn easy, and take your time.
I hope you got all brackets and screws mate

I was just thinking the same thing. The bracket for mounting it in the roof is still on the car in the picture you posted. You might have to pick it up on another trip. I've put one of those lights in my 3rd gen, the body is the ground, and I just crimped on another wire to the 12V line that is under the roof lining.

Here's the howto for a 3rd gen, might be some help

Yeah, I'd just use the white needles in your dash cluster.
If you didn't get the metal brackets off the Verada, you'll have to go back & get them - you will need the front map light one and the centre one as well as it's different to the exec bracket.

went back today and grabbed the brackets, will be installing them tonight. what a mental day!! on the way back i noticed a really strong smell of burning oil. Got home and lifted the bonnet, faced with oil sprayed all over the bay, and dripping a hell of a lot from what seemed like everyhwere. Rocker cover gasket was completely shot. Got my dad to drive me down to Repco and picked up a new rubber one. While i had the rocker cover off i cleaned it furiously. It was caked in about half an inch of thick black gunk. Couldnt even see the breather case holes
Its running beautifully now, took her for a good spin down the M2, felt like a different car!!

Need some more friendly help now...

When installing the front map lights, is the power plug already under the roof lining?
Also, what is involved in changing the muffler by myself? is it absolutely neccessary to use a new gasket between the muffler and centre pipe flange?

If the new muffler has the pipe already welded on, it's a simple bolt on job. If it doesn't, then it's a welding job. The gasket would only need to be changed if it's shredded.

Bad news again mate! You needed to cut the one off the car at the scrappies. There isn't one there (thats why I was talking about crimping the new connector onto the 12V power line)

Dave

damnit!!!! thats annoying :( can i buy the connector in an auto shop?

As for the exhaust, it has the pipe all the way up to the flange with the 3 welded bolts on it. Im pretty sure its the whole thing!

just fitted my white needles, big difference! already decided that im going to paint them red next weekend and fit the white dials. then it will look hawt!

Dave

wow what a day!! She is back up and running, and sporting a nearly new muffler. It sounds bloody great compared to the useless piece of crap that was on before. My back is soooo sore. The nuts on the exhaust flange were proper rusted on. So much so, i split a Draper chrome vanadium socket in half  . WD40 saves the day yet again!

Engine is running better than ever after the front rocker cover was taken off and scrubbed out.

Jobs left for next weekend:

Finally get round to modifying the bootlid to accomodate the Verada garnish.
Install white dials and paint needles red with white centre bits

Things need doing

New brake discs and pads all round
New suspension desperately needed
CV joints and front bearings
GEARBOX :( - Its really clunking out of O/D now, and downshifts are painfully bad. Hopefully it only needs a bloody good service.

FUN FUN FUN lol

Haha dave you finally got around to checking pick n payless out. How much did you spend in total? I hope not much
I've leeched all the good bits out of most of the magna's/veradas there hahaha I don't think you'll find much till they get new stock.

Nice find! Muffler looks a bit 1970's though lol

Good find, I hope you mean TR Elite or KS XI as there is no such thing as a KS ELite lol

THe Elite dash is far better looking, should have grabbed all the climate control stuff as well as is not that hard to fit and looks great
\
I thought you have a V6, if so that dash cluster is no good to you as the speedo will read wrong as will the tach

Mal spotted it! Yep the Elite dash cluster won't work with your car Dave as you've got a V6.

I want the Jap dash cluster from the Diamante Espada that shows 180km/h top speed and has the "ding ding" sound when you go over 100km/h haha
Pure JDM :)

Check Dickies or any other electronics store for DIY speed alarms. Or, even the net.

What is that? What does it look like?
I'd like one that doesn't have any flashing lights or digital things etc. Just one in the background like the 80's JDM ones that just go ding ding when you go over 105km/h hehe

i paid $70 for all the parts i picked up. The muffler is bloody good condition, what a complete bastard to get the old one off though!!! i had many swearing matches with it. I have nicked the white needles off the dash cluster, the rest is going in the bin :)

There was a heap of woodgrain interior and climate control in the Elite, but the controls were broken  Would it have been a direct fit?

I will be fitting the garnish this weekend, need to find a tool which will cut through the metal bootlid though :) any idea what will be easiest?

Madmagna
02-07-2007, 06:45 PM
Get a nibbler, is a clean cut and you need little room, goes round the corners too

Dave
02-07-2007, 06:52 PM
what the hell is a nibbler?

Google it

i think thats it :s
If not use a dremel maybe if you have one laying around?
Ir if you can take the bootlid off hit it with a jigsaw.

Dave
03-07-2007, 06:33 PM
hmm might invest in a dremel on the weekend.

03-07-2007, 06:35 PM

I think you should make it your "this weekend" project :D
