G'day all, I test drove a TS wagon yesterday, it was in otherwise very good nick but the amount of rattles and squeeks coming from the interior trim was unbelievable. Is this normal in a TS wagon?

My KR wagon had it's fair share of interior noises, mostly around the centre console and the cargo area trim. In a new car it shouldn't be happening, but in a ~10 year old car I'd expect it. Joins in panels and fittings gradually open up during years in the sun, and the roll and flex of the body during driving causes things to rub together.

mines fairly quiet but squeaks and whatnot wouldnt surprise me. give it a go with interior cleaner or maybe a bit of WD-40, should do the trick

Yep. Some WD-40 will help. You'll notice that the rattles and squeeks are more common in the colder months. I had a few squeeks coming from my front bar but in summer it goes away.

I thought that aswell, but my current TP sedan (230K) doesn't make a sound...

The interior plastics in the 2nd Gens seem to be somewhat prone to it unfortunately... Every one I've driven does it.

mine is pretty good, just a rattly passenger seat.

I have the healthy buzz of the lost screws in the stereo area console, rest in peace boys... lest we forget lol

On a serious note, something in the back half of my car squeeks, but I just turn the music up.

Mine's pretty good. Check all screws are nice and tight, also some parts originally had like a felt tape on their edges to decrease rubbing sounds, this may have worn away. Could aways check out the wreckers and see if any parts feel firmer, then swap 'em out. Costs bugger all.

its always wise to invest in a decent stereo system when purchasing an old car - then you can turn the music up and not hear the sounds it makes.
Old cars, they aren't perfect.

Funny enough but i had a MAJOR rattle at like 2000rpm coming from inside, got my exhaust system put on, and im like, what rattle?
So yeah, that fixed the problem :)

Mine is pretty good, I'm actually happy with it, oh and the dead thrust bearing in the g'box drowns out even the noisiest of 22 wheelers hard on the exhaust brakes.

Oh the only really annoying thing is the front passenger seat's back is a little.. loose, it'd jiggles ever so slighty but squeaks.

I literally have a jar of screws that I don't know where they came from in my car! Yet the strangest thing is... it's a first gen that's like 17 years old, and it doesn't have any squeaks at all, and the only rattle is from the crappy design steering wheel cover!

yeah, i tried this. i can still hear the rattles.

Biggest offenders-
Plastic mirror cover thing at the head lining
door snipper buttons
rear eye-level stop light
drivers' door pocket (now swapped for TR Elite ones with speaker pods :) )

Yeah my passenger side seat clicks and clacks sometimes and one of the fog lights on my front bar squeeks when it's cold weather.

Actually I do have one big offender, the crash barrier in the back, one day I'm gonna sort the bastard out... have done all manner of tightening, and it still squeaks annoyingly on bouncy roads... guess I've grown acustomed to it, completely forgot about it!

(And still got a clunk in the front that hasn't been sorted out, everything is tight, maybe steering rack though steering isn't showing any signs).

Yeah that's the same that's happening to my front. Squeeks on bumpy roads omg. Drives you insane when hi fi is off.
Argh

Yeah the lock surrounds and the lock rattle a bit but that can be fixed with tape :). Also in my wagon the spare wheel well cover had a rattle, but I fixed that with some of that foam tape used to seal up windows. Just ran that round the edge and it's quiet as now. Other than that there aren't any rattles.
