Just had to register the wagon. I'm just seing if anyone can help me out. Redbook doesn't seem to bother listing the tare weight for my exact model.
I've got a TH Altera LS Wagon with the 4 speed, and the RTA thinks it's tare weight is 1505kg's, which is exactly the weight where I stop paying $262 rego and start paying $373 rego.
I would imagine my wheels probably kick me down under the original weight by themselves.
I'll check the book for info tonight, but has anyone else noticed their wagon having a very expensive kilograms worth of lard ?

If you want to reduce the weight remove the boards from under the rear cargo carpet. Bloody heavy lumps of MDF. That should drop a few kgs. Replace the board over the spare wheel with a masonite one.

nodnod, there are plenty of ways to take away weight, and your suggestion sounds like one of the best (it is a very heavy piece of wood). but I want to remove from the official tare weight in the world of the RTA.
unfortunately the operators manual doesn't seem to contain a tare weight *shrug*
edit:
upon further investigation the solara and advance wagons seem to be 17kg lighter, but after talking about our cars with a guy who has the same year solara, about the only difference is afew chromed plastic fitting pieces that are just plain plastic, and the body coloured mirrors.
can anyone think of 17kg's worth of difference between the Advance/Solara and the Altera ?

Manual vs power seats? Integrated/seperate headrests vs none on rear seat? Cruise/non cruise. Cant think of much else, and I doubt it would come to 17kg.

iirc the TH advance was manual standard with auto option, where the altera was auto only. so maybe there comparing a manual vs auto weight

That wouldn't help, as the RTA won't weigh the car. Rego over in NSW is on tare weight, not cylinders like in SA. In SA, a 4 cylinder Patrol pays the Yaris, yet a 6 cyl Holden Epica pays more .

I stand corrected. There is a difference of 17kg between the Altera LS and the Advance. The only way I can see there being a difference in Kerb weight being 1549 and the weight you mention 1505 as being tare weight, maybe tare weight is the vehicle unladen without a full fuel load? Full tank of fuel weigh about 44kg? The attachment is a scan from the TH Owners Manual btw.
