well as the story goes im very keen to upgrade and had a dilemma of a sports car or another good reliable family car.
i drove a 380GT when they were first released but wasnt wanting to buy one and forgot how what they were like.
anyhoo ive looked into all the models and features etc, and i have to say the 380SX is a whole lot of car for not so much money!!
its got the bodykit of the vrx and gt's but doesnt have the headllights or the tailights. has all otehr features of the VRX apart from the leather seats, but in all honesty the factory trim of the SX looks the part and is very warm where as the VRX and GT seats are exact same style just leather and quite cold on early mornings lol. also it has the same gauges as the VRX and blue lights
i was quite suprised with all the extra features the new trip computer had when compared to the magna,
so ive come to the conclusion the 380's class and comfort far outweighs that of a wrx or 5 year plus sports car, yes its 1600kg's and lacks a little power compared to say a wrx/r33 etc etc, but i think theres enough there in reserve to get come real ponies out from basic mods (based on what ive read)
So as it stands a black 380SX (ex demo) should be coming my way quite soon, hopefully manual with a sunroof :)
i do like the green 380SX's and the idea of having only one of the 50 ever released is appealing but i think the black ones are alot more classy, specially when lowered with 19's and whitewalls:)
to be quite honest i think the car compares to the Euro Accord which is alot more money but the 380 to me now seems to have the same class and appeal ...
so yer theres my thoughts for any of you looking at owning a 380:)

Good choice mate. Just on the Euro tho - their interior is horrible. About as bad as the 380. lol
Congrats on the buy if you go ahead... I too didnt give it a 2nd thought till i went car shopping and it came down to the 380 VRX and the little xr4 in the end! but it was a hard choice... they're just hard to look past with comfort, power and price!! the price is unbelievable and for the extras.. its a great buy... a green 380 would of been hot too :D
Decider for me was petrol and convinience... and they are a big ass car lol.

i seen that on carsales to,
the reality is those green ones are not selling at all, it seems ppl love the colour but dont wanna deal with it every day in their driveway lol.
i want black, as i think a little bit of sensible lowering, on chromies, white walls and dark tint will set it off very nicely in a classy way

Hi Everyone!
I've too have been in the market for a new car for about a month now. After shopping around, test-driving various makes/models (Holden VE Commodore, Ford Falcon, Honda Accord Euro, Toyota Aurion and Mitsubishi 380) and reading various reviews, I decided to go ahead and buy one - A brand new Mitsubishi 380 Platinum Edition... Black.
I picked it up just last friday and have never been happier with it. From what I've beem told, the Platinum edition is based on the SX model, but with Sunroof, front upper and lower grills, rear lip spoiler, bluetooth phone kit, reverse park sensors and a huge sexy looking chrome exhaust. Not sure if there are many ex-demos out there, but the rrp price of a platinum is cheaper than an SX when I enquired at the local dealer. And although the 380's official fuel consumption label claims a small 10.8ltrs/100km, the constant rise in petrol prices did convince me to convert to duel fuel (LPG/ULP), at the expense of $4000 extra and the loss of my boot space.
So again, I just wanted to say HI and thanks to everyone in this forum in helping me make a decision. I came across this forum when I was searching for 380 reviews on google, and even though this is my first post, I spent many hours as a guest reading through various threads. Nothing like getting the opinion straight from the owners themselves.:D

yeah its basically an SX but with all the options standard as a packaged deal, i think the soilers look out of place without the GT/VRX tail lights as they r molded to the outside of the spoiler.
its scary to say but i may sacrifice manual for a black/sunroof lol now that is big coming from me lol

well in that case go for your life. I had a manual 97 pulsar when i turned 18, had that for 1.5 years and bought the verada.
After a month i regreted ever buying an auto.
Now I got the type of car i've really been wanting since I was a little boy.

I used to have a manual 99 Pulsar SSS - had that for about 5 years - and although it was fun at first, driving around the city can really be annoying. You never really get outta second gear, especially when your stuck in gridlock (yes, its sydney traffic 24/7...!). These days I'm just glad I have the auto when I'm in the city, and although I do miss the fun of a manual, the tiptronic does do a good job to keeping me entertained while I'm on the free... err.. I mean motoways.

Yeah, I definitely agree there, but the dealer said it would cost around $700 per light if wanted them put in. He said it was because its a "spare part" and not a "dealer option" on the car? Anyone else hear this?

Its a different spoiler on the Platinum to the VRX so it doesn't look out of place.
Platinum spolier curves around to meet the edges of the bootlid.
VRX is straight across to match up with the tail light lips.
And why would anyone regret getting the auto ?
Flick it over into manual mode whenever you want to play :) ....unless you REALLY miss your clutch ?

I think the mustard colour looks great. I followed a VRX a couple of days ago and even tho it was stock the colour works really well on that shape.
Hi Boi; I thought you would be Aurion Sports is da pimp?
Why not hang out for the Series III? and even then the SX or Platinum will be adequate.
Sorry guys, but the GT is not worthy of the name. For it to have been a true GT it would need to have more KWs. (turbod, lowered, and bigger rims), maybe a GT stripe down the middle.
Personally, I find the Mitsis taste in colour schemes very boring. The only real option to go for is the black. At least you will stand out from the crowd.

Yeah I don't get the GT.
Compare to the Platinum.
For a **** load more you get: leather seats, a 10 way power seat, VRX taillights/headlights, and the silver strips on the side and back.
And other than the 10 ways seat, the rest can be done after market for way less than buying the GT !?

actually the GT badging started from the UK/Europe, not Ford GT's, and stands for 'Grand Tourer'... GTs in their classic form are cars of luxury, more so designed as chauffeur driven cars, rather than sports cars. Think of Bentley Continentals etc, can be heavy, with a bit of go, but not overly race track stances or bodies.
So in fitting with the true sense of the GT badge, the 380 GT does achieve that almost, well more than the rest in the lineup, and the Verada could almost get a GT like badge. But please dont go thinking that for something to have a GT badge it should have ****loads of power and a stripe or 2 down the middle, because they would just be wrong and highly uninformed about GTs...

the only time i dish manual driving is when i finish work at 3 -4 am, i can't be bothered changing gears, however, during a free spirit run ( which is 80% of the time) manual kicks ass.
yea the value for money on the 380 is great, so the buy should be a sweet one, and i'm assuming you'll be doing some engine work no doubt after you get, so power won't be a problem in the long run i think

Thanks for the history lesson Spaceback, agree with your closing statements. But I think you'll find that the Aussie car makers made good use of the term ever since the late 60s and 70's when they decided to race GTs at the Mountain over long distances, using the "sports", not luxury, versions of their models.
A grand tourer (Italian: Gran Turismo), (initialised GT), is a high-performance automobile designed for long-distance driving. Any such car could be considered a grand tourer, but the traditional and most common body style is the coupé (two door) with either a two-seat or a 2+2 seat arrangement...However, grand tourers do have similarities with sports cars, such as their use mainly of rear- or four-wheel drive, and the term sports car may be used to describe a car with grand touring qualities.
Funny, I don't picture the 380 GT in this description, no more than any other 380 set-up
But wouldn't it be good if MMAL, were to put in a higher spec'd motor with a few extra KW's say up to 200KW in their GT, then I think it would be worthy of the title. IMHO.
I'm going to get my old Sigma GJ SE with GSR mods, and will slap on a GT badge on it now! lol

And from what i know the Ford Falcon here is Oz was the first 4 door car to wear a GT badge. correct me if i'm wrong.
Correct....
Ford Falcon XR GT 1968
In Australia, 1968 the XR model began the legend that was to be the GT. This car has 225HP from a 289 Windsor V8. This was just prior to the Phase 1 release. Not bad for its day.
And by 1970, the GTHO, was putting out 370HP ! Bloody good for its day. Those guys knew how to put excitement into a production car.
Which highlights my original point, the 380 GT is not a true GT by definition. Just some watered down marketing ploy to entice more money from consumers.

I haven't actually seen the green 380 on the real thing, but it did look good on the VY commodore. Looking at the photos alone, i looks like the green 380 is a little darker than the one on the VY, just like how there was a slightly brighter green on the AU Falcon a few years back.
It seems like this colour is in bed with a different make each year.... lol
