View Full Version : Group Buy - 3000GT Intake Pipe

As posted in my last thread, there was interest for a group buy for the 3000GT intake pipes which fit all second gen motors. TuffTR bought up the idea, so lets see some interest, myself or Tuff will check some sellers to check whether we can initiate a group buy.

shouldn't it be in the for sale section:D

I'd be very interested (depending on cost).
(no pod needed for me)

*edit*
Great idea ... depending on the final costs, etc ...maybe a small donation to AMC?

I've attached some pics of what these intakes look like...
(possibly not the actual ones that may be sold in this group buy)

Is relevant to most second genners, therefore my justification is that some don't even look in the for sale section, or anywhere else on the site other than this part of the forums, so if they want it, they can :)

so are these mainly for looks or performance? any noticable difference with it on?

Looks, these aren't performance tuned pipes, especially on a stock magna.

These aren't as loud as the resonator modded stock pipes, however they produce a nicer note, deeper etc.

Yeah the pipe cost me $120 shipped, hopefully a group buy will cut the shipping costs down a substantial amount.

lol This wasn't actually my idea, blame TuffTR! And don't forget I ordered mine without the group buy too :P

Cable ties? Omg you are loco man, get some clamps from supercheap auto or something!

And the noise you notice is induction noise, not exhaust lol

You guys should make a kit yourselves that might give SOME sort of gain rather than this as it's just a pretty version of the same lame intake. Make your own THSmoker kit, will probably be cheaper and have faster delivery for the customers too, get some stainless 3" cut from a pipe or exhaust place etc etc (you know what the drum is). This will give you no performance gain, it's just a pretty pipe that costs A LOT.

I could do that, but cant really be bothered

Yeah a couple of ebay auctions claim an improvement in performance - but like, when do we beleive them! :bowrofl:
Anyway, I'm guessing any performance gain is from the pod you stick on the end - not the shiney silver tube.
But they do look nice :D - better than a stock black plastic tube.

However, if the tube is made out of aluminium - wouldn't it heat up slower (if at all given the airflow through it as well) than black plastic? ...and if so keep the air cooler?

you'd think so. its alot smoother so it increases flow, the POD makes a differnce too (did for me) but the bend after the MAF is right beside the top radiator hose and block so it absorbs a fair bit of heat from there. atm ive got cardboard between the pipe and engine til i can find something better lol. whether it gets hot inside the pipe or not im not sure. but it looks teh sex :D

Just because the pipe is cool doesn't mean the air is cooler, just like on a heat sync on a computer, the heat sync is cooled by the air, it doesn't cool the air.

Think about how the heat travels.

Heat released from combustion > Travels to pipe > Is conducted via the pipe to the air, heating the air.

not sure on this one mate, it might just be true. i'm thinking of it as a cooler bag. sure the air around it is warm, but the air inside iit is cold, with the resistance of the white plastic inside it stays cool. However, the bag heats up after a while if there isn't any ice inside.

you catch my drift? at the start the air would be cool and stay cooler for a longer period than the pipe, but as soon as the pipe heats inside, the air will too. really, any form of metal is bound to conduct heat.

What I am saying is that pipe is cooled by the air flowing through it, this would cause the air to get warmer!

However, in real life there is going to be more heat going into the pipe than is being taken away by the air, so the pipe will get hot and so will the air.

Fair enough, but it'd take longer for the aluminium to heat through than black rubber, seeing as aluminium doesn't absorb as much heat as rubber. It'd take longer for te air to heat up with the alu tube than with the rubber one.

I do agree, however, that it wouldn't stay cold forever, and would end up being the same heat if not hotter than what i would be with te rubber pipe.

1. $195 AUS or US dollars?
2. $195 for 5 intakes ($39 each).
3. What was the product price?

Tuffy, PM me who you emailed. I emailed a couple of US ebay sellers about 6mths to a year ago when I had a similar idea. I'll see if I can find their responses and see how they compare with your sellers/prices.

1. dunno
2. Somewhere in here it said that someone paid $120 for it and to expect the same price
3. The $195 is only for delivery from what I gather

they'll quote in US dollars. $195 shipping for 5 kits is pretty good. i paid $65US for one kit.
works out to be $39US each for shipping. not bad. id say take it

Yeah sounds good, but after it gets here, and we have to then ship them off to everyone else (he only ships to one address) we'd only end up saving $10-$20.

GRDPuck
11-07-2007, 08:43 PM
hmmm, $10-$20 is better in our pockets but at the end of the day, hardly worth the hassle of getting money from people, ordering them in bulk, possible risk of import duties when you bring in larger qty of one item, repackaging them & then sending it out to everyone. Also the questions, problems (if any), etc. :doubt:

Maybe each to their own again. Pity, would've been good if the savings were more.
