Good day
I have checked out this site for information regularly and its been a great help. My TN wagon has been reliable to date (11yrs) unfortunately wear has caught up with the engine- a couple of burnt valves and a noisy clutch (I believe a worn release bearing).
I hope to get an exchange engine from F1 Motor Recycles and repair the gearbox myself. I have checked out the links and info on this site on the gearbox overhaul, however I am unclear as to the best way to lower the gearbox without it falling off a tolley jack. Is there some sort of jig or stand I can make to prevent it moving off?
Last time I removed a gearbox it was a rear wheel drive Datsun 180B.
Thank you in advance.

I pulled out the auto from my tn spare parts car for a mate.
And when i did it i used my hydrulic jack on wheels. now on my jack there's a pad thats made of metal , now this is whats between the car and the jack. This pad is bolted on , so i un bolted it and cut some thick mdf to the rough size and bolted that to the jack instead of the metal pad. I then got the tranny almost ready to pull off and slid the jack under then strapped the tranny to the board onto of the jack. I used those rachet straps that u normally use on trailers.
Ok now once ur sure it's pretty secure, grab a mate so he can hold onto and guide it while your letting it down.
thats what i did anyways

If it is just a few burnt valves, you can either just remove the head and get the valves and stem seals replaced and could even get a bit of modding done while you're at it, or just go to a wreckers and grab another head off another engine and get it tested and fit it yourself. Probably a fair bit cheaper than getting an entire new unknown engine that could have any number of unseen issues...

In the topic of repairs, does anyone know how to repair a guide for the timing chain in the bottom of the motor. At this stage i think ill be taking the left front wheel off and trying to pull open the motor at a low point...?
ANy help is appreciated. If theres a thread on it, please point it out :)
Thanks.
