View Full Version : Blown Cat Converter - Reason 4 Bad economy??

hey all

well i think my cat is well and trully dead all u hear from my car now when i take off is a sucking noise and my back muffler has gotten really rattily.now would this stuff my fuel economy cause ive noticed a big drop round town i usally get 400kms of a tank and 500 of a tank on the open road well now i struggle to get 300 kms of a tanks in town havent tried out of town yet.now would this also make me lose power cause its got no balls atm.i went and got a quote 4 a new cat from profix and thye want 250.i know of a place tht does straight through exhausts 4 cheaper then this so i dont know what to do.but yeah feel free to help me out with my questions thanks


Oh and i drive a 92' KR Ei 3.0lr 6cyl and its auto

if your cat is blocked then it would restrict exhaust getting out, losing you power. Then you give it more stick to make up for it, ruining economy. Also i believe the 6's have a oxygen sensor down near the cat, and that would be getting confused.

I'm in the same boat, can't say for certain if it's effecting economy or not. But something to consider is that if, like me, you have leaking valve stem seals, then the extra smoke is going to be gunking up the cat, so probably best to fix them before the cat, as you don't want to stuff the new one prematurely.

I'm going to investigate what kind of prices I can source a decent cat for, and get a mate to fit instead. As you say, $200-250 seems a hell of a lot to pay for a cat. New should be less than $150 if you can fit it yourself.

If you want a stock cat (which would be more then fine) i can post my old one out to you for about $85.

well got my car fixed 2day

the cat was the problem the bits from the cat were stuck inside the pipe and the muffler so there 4 the problem of lose of power and fuel economy.anyways all fixed now and i love it goes soooo much better thanks to the guys at aussie discount zorsts on port rd.

anyways now i will be able to go on cruizes Woot!!
