Howdy
I'm thinking about getting this unit:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260133376154&ssPageName=ADME:B:EF:US:2

Looks nice, good features, and has a bluetooth car kit as well which i'll need. As you can see from the pics it is single DIN but does actually protrude below the bottom to fit the monitor on. I was thinking about installing it in the top DIN slow in my TJ2 Advance and leaving the shelf in under it (which I use for stuff anyway). Has anyone tried one of these units, and if so, how was the fit? Did it protrude very far out from the dash itself?
Cheers.

Ummm thanks, but your comment doesn't mean much without offering a viable alternative, nor does it actually answer the questions I asked in my original post.

I'd agree with the other two on this as well m8. I looked at some cheaper units myself but it's well worth waiting a few weeks and saving for a unit that will be of top quality. It's a case of quantity versus time. We all want one now but are we willing to sacrifice quality to get it? If you wanna get a cheaper one now then go for it and you will probably like it however, after a while, you may see other units in cars or yours may develop a problem and then it will cause more problems than it's worth. If you wait (as much as everyone hates waiting) you will be far better off.

Let us know wat u decide.

Okay... so i'm after a unit with all the functions the one I linked to above has. Can anyone point me to a "brand name" one with all the features?

this is the unit everyone is currently raving about.. i only quickly skimmed through the specs of the ebay unit, but its a decently close match.

as for how far it protrudes, pretty much just imagine that the unit stops so the face sticks out, whatever width the face is, is how far it sticks out :)

my Alpine 7998R pokes out a bit further than these units and its still perfectly fine, doesnt look weird or anything

my $0.02, why would anyone want a 3" or 4" screen? do you like to squint when watching movies/video clips, or is it 100% wank factor, but cant afford a 7" setup?

When i had the JVC one in it was fine. the picture quality was very clear and that was a 3.5" screen
