hello i have this problem that just sprung up not to long ago im not sure if its my clutch or gerbox havent had the chance to take it in yet to get checked so mite ask here before i go to some rip off. ive got a manual tf and gears between 1st and 5th get this slipping problem but only if i push down hard on the accelerator and after it passes at least 3k-4krpm but when i pull back a little bit it goes back to normal? anyone know just from the sounds of that if it could be the clutch or gearbox? please say clutch:cry:

yer get a new clutch, slipping is the clutch, crunching/difficulty getting into gear is the gearbox. Unfortunately, its not cheap, expect to spend at least a grand!
Check down the bottom of the forum main page at phillcom rally, they have a special on magna clutches until the end of this month.

how much would a new clutch cost? on a 1997 TE magna
including installation etc
i got one supplied and installed for $850 through gold coast brake and clutch
wen i got a stronger clutch it went in at the same time as the new engine so no extra on fitting but it cost $600 for the kit alone

thanks, selling my magna and the buyer was bitching about the clutch and how it was apparently slipping (ive never noticed it mainly coz i dont drive like a douchebag :p)
he reckons a clutch is $500 and he'd install it himself as hes supposedly a mech so looks like the way to go. unfortunately it means i gotta drop my price a fair bit (when driving it hard there IS some slippage of the clutch but i never noticed it before it was pointed out) but if it means i can move on to my next car (U13 bluebird) then so be it. thanks muchly :)

My car is doing the same, drives fine but if you push it a little the revvs go up for a bit then come back down and actually start pulling the car. Grrr more money, I don't even want this car anymore!!!

yep thats exactly whats happening with mine. but as i said i dont drive it like a tool (and even if i did i think my uber manual skillz have been improved by the slight lag in the clutch :p)
yeah do what im doing and sell it, i wont be coming back to the magna scene for a long while considering the ordeal ive had with mine.
EDIT - sold, thank god! $4000 which i think is quite fair. they knew they'd be up for replacing the clutch.

$4000! geez, how many Kms? and did you have anything done to it? Im lookin at less than two, I have the clutch problem and I damaged the front guard.

stock as a rock, when i purchased it (for $4000) it had been lowered and had some nice ROH rims on it which may have helped sell it. there was a dent in the rear right hand side door though.
i think it had about 180,000 on the clock.
gees, less than $2000? i'll buy it, give it a go at changing the clutch myself lol
mine also had various other problems.
1. 3 oil leaks - one from the o-ring or something but nfi about the other two.
2. handbrake totally not working - needed new rear brake shoes and a brake cable
3. needed a full fluid flush really badly
4. CD player not working :p
5. rear right hand brake light not working
6. of course the clutch playing funny buggers
so yeah i was ecstatic when they offered me $4000. had it listed in the paper for $4990 and had at least 10 calls about it over the course of the week (hadnt even gone into the paper yet, was only online). very surprised...

Mad, Ive got Nearly 190,000km. Everything works just needs new clutch, new front guard and a handy-dandy service. Might actually make a profit outta this junker lol
