hi there!
i have purchased aftermarket fog lights that came with a prewired kit with a switch!
ive been told that i needed to wire them to my parking lights.
HOWEVER!!! when i did do so i am able to turn my fog lights on and off from the given switch only when my parking lights are on!.... when the the headlights are switched on from the indicator stalk the power to the fog lights is cut off and i cant turn them on or off from its own given switch!!
would anyone know how i can wire this so that i can turn my fog lights on and off while i have my main headlights on.?????
This installation is to occur in a TF.
i already have everything i need... (i.e switch, relay, wiring, fuse.....all prewired and came with the foggies i bought)
your help would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thank You!!!

as far as a relay if its being used one side would be negative, one to the battery, one to the fog lights and the other side to the switch AFAIK?

Dont see how it could have gone wrong.
Mine are wired to the parkers.
Parkers stay on when headlights are fully on thus, fog lights can be turned on and off.
Parkers off means no electric current for foggies, mean it cant be turned on.
Check your wiring.
Make sure you use the + wired to the parkers +
Is very simple so I dont think it will be that difficult to figure.
Note, wiring to the Parkers is the legal setup.

with the prewired kit i got with the foggies, from the switch is a positive that connects to the positive of the parking lights and from the fuse is a positive that connects tot he positive of the battery!
are you saying io should connect all the positives to the battery and ground the negatives????

yeh.. wiring to the headlights was obviously wrong.. i know mine are wired to my parkers.. and they come on when i turn em on, then i can still turn em off with the switch if i want to.. like the others have said.. check ure wiring.. could be sumthin really simple

when i took off the cover around the indicator stalk there were three wires... BLACK, RED and YELLOW.... is it the red that is the positive of the parking lights?
if so thats what ive been wiring it to and doesnt keep the fog lights on when the main headlights are on? any suggestions??

like from the fogs i got positive wire straight to the switch (i have 3 teminals on my switch, one for poistive to battery one to the fogs and a negative one) so i wired a positive from my battery terminal on my switch to the battery, then i earthed up the negative one, the other one i wired up to the positive on my fogs, i then earthed the negatives on the fogs and it worked a treat and still going strong.

Yo, When I said I done mine up with the parkers they are not wired at the stalk.
I layed my wires through the firewall connecting the one wire to the actual PARKER light.
Hope you understand now rather than messing up the stalk area which you shouldnt.

This is how it should ba wired up. Sounds like the first time you where feeding the fog lights off the parker power, you should only use this as a signal to switch the relay on.

Which is how they are meant to be used - on parkers only :)
Fog lights are installed below the level of the headlight to cut under fog - having your headlights on at the same time gives you the 'whitewash' effect and negates the usefulness of using fog lights.
However, I guess you want to be one of those people that drive with your fog lights on all the time - if that's the case, you've buggered the wiring somehow :D

Well if you followed the diagram I put up, you will have the option of switching them off whenever you wanted, but they will still only work if the parkers/lights are on. So you won't have to worry about leaving them on accidentally. :P
If you look at my diagram in my previouse post, you will see you need to:
1. Switch the parkers on,
2. Have your fog light switch on,
This sends a voltage to the Relay coil, switching it on. This allows the fog lights to be powered.
So switching either the parkers or fog light switch off, releases the relay coil killing power to the fog lights.

So any luck? Did succeed in re-wiring the Fog lights correctly?

ive successfully installed my foggies. instead of wiring them to the positive of my parking lights i wired it to the positive of my cigerette lighter plug. that way it is wired to my accessories so it will get its power to turn on and off individually from my lighting system!
this gives me the option to turn them on and off whether my headlights or parking lights are on or off!.... also if i forget them on they will turn off when i turn off the ignition.
in completion of my fog light installation ive also replaced the stock plastic grills with aluminium chrome mesh.. Pretty proud of my success i must say.
ill be sure to post up photos in this thread to give you guys who helped me out a look of what ive done!
thanks to those who help
