View Full Version : Car's been lowered

Well, I'm pretty impressed. Last Thursday the guys from SR automotive fitted my suspension. The gear comprised of King Springs 'Lows', (the SP ones which are 25-30mm not the 40mm ones), KYB Gas shocks, a Whiteline rearsway bar, (18-22mm), and a Whiteline front strut brace.
Ride quality is relatively unaffected. It bounces a little on uneven roads but is far from annoying. It's made a big difference in handelling and drivability. Body roll has been reduced quite well and turn in is sharper and more accurate. At the moment, lowering measurements give 25mm at each corner.
As some of us know I'm yet to fit my wheels, (I should take a leaf out of Nike's book and Just Do It!), so once they go on, it should be an amazing transformation.
Here's a before and after. It will take trainspotters to pick the difference but it's mainly obvious that the wheels are almose centered with the arches. Should look great with VR-X wheel arch flares.
Looks like a real car and not a 4WD, and I noticed the same when I lowered mine

the problem is just that, its looks like a real car not a lowered car :( one thing i hate about magnas, wonder if my insurance would mind me getting super lows put on :D

The thing about Magnas is that the front is far higher than the rear, and therefore looks like a bloke in a cardigan should get in it.( not that I have anything against cardigans! They have their place in society) It seems as though 60 at the front , 40 at the rear is the go. Then, the tyre to arch height seems even at both ends, and it takes on a more agressive stance. BUT, by the sound of members posts, it's probably a good move to get the shocks upgraded at the same time.

The lawn has been mown (you can see the foot path better)
The christmas decorations have been taken down (including the santas house and chimney with climbing santa ont eh letterbox and the Santa stop here sign in the garden. )
The tree near the 4WD has been trimmed.
Cool that was a good game.
Do more photos like this.
Any other differences.

Are these your new tyres with load rating 105 - suitable for Heavy Duty landmovers?
Other than that, nice stuff. 8)

Looks like the people to the right (4wd) also trimmed their garden a bit where the 4wd is.

I did a photochop before the lowering and used those as a referrence. One's for 25mm and one's for 30mm.

What sort of shocks did you get KYB. What sorta brand are they what does it stand for if anything?

KYB only have non-adjustable shocks. They're basically OEM replacement type of gas shocks. Someone has described them as being almost as good as Koni. We'll see, not that I've ever use Koni. I'm sure they're better than the cheap stuff Mitsu probably use. Not sure what KYB stand for.
Nah, KJ, couldn't get there. I had a prior engagement with mates.

It's actually on the left, mind you.
Anyway. I had KYB b4 in an Escort Grp 2 and they were quite good. But "as good or close to Koni" I wouldn't say. Jap stuff, worth the money.
Right...

I just reckon you did an excellent job of parking the car in almost the same spot and took the photo as close to the same position, well done!
I think the bush near the 4WD has actually grown, not been trimmed. The bright green foliage (big word) wasn't in the before shot.
