Hey guys, first time Magna owner and first time poster

I'd like to make my first controversial statement :D

They're a dream to drive, smooth and easy control, and its the car my friends pick when we're going for a long drive to some party in "whoop whoop" Because it is a dream on the freeways. Yes they're a fantastic car.

When they work.

I've had mine about 9 months and the amount spent is at $1,750 and climbing. Hopefully that will change... But not reassuring is that i have never heard a story of a Healthy, perfect Magna. Maybe you guys can give me some encouragement hey haha, i've seen some nice beasts on here actually.

Anyway i'm wasting postage, onto the issue

Its a strange problem i'll admit, sorry, Nobody i've talked to about it has the foggiest idea as to what could be happeneing, a few random suggestions would be great:

What happens is, when accelerating (And i've got the window open so i can hear under the car), when accelerating, There's like a "scccccrrrhh", a mild kind of grating, or fast grinding noise coming from under the car. It only happens when accelerating from a very slow speed or stationary.

SOMETIMES the noise is much more common and pronounced when the wheel is not straight, for some reason its a lot louder if im turning left around a corner

However i am unable to demonstrate it really because it doesnt happen EVERY time, in fact, it usually takes about 20 mins of driving before the noises start.... but anyway, if you need more info i'll be happy to tell what i can.... Any stabs in the dark people? Thank you!

(P.S.... do you have a healthy Magna???!!!)

it may be the cv drive shafts or the brake disc pads /rotors

now we need to know what model the car is :D

start here

Part one general information

Good grief i didn't expect a reply that fast!

I was just entering the details into my profile as you replied! But anyway,

1999 TH Magna
3.5 Litre 24 valve
Auto transmission
17" Mags
An exhaust that has no records of when or where it was installed but its not stock.

And the rest of the car is stock except for the head unit and amp.

I have literally just had the brakes replaced 2 weeks ago, and my friend and myself personally went and got the rotors machined, got high quality pads (lucas) and we even used a load of locktight on the CV shafts as well as a damn iron bar to get them back on. The brakes are sweet

Anyway it was making this noise well before we fiddled with the brakes and Its still doing it now. Uhm... although it does make sense that something along those lines. Beginning the big read now buddy :D

Hi and welcome Little, I second Buff's diagnosis on the cv or drive being the prob. How many K's has it done??

Hey man

haha, pull up a chair in case you faint :D

You'd figure a 1999 car can't be that bad right?

WRONG!

203,000km

( It was owned by the Commonwealth Bank, who put on most of the milage in only 5 years. when we worked it out mathmatically They were doing an average of 280 km a day. Apparantly it was used Day and night)

And then after that it was owned by a cook who drove it barely anywhere but managed to wire a 650 watt subwoofer into a 400watt amplifier, NAIL the subwoofer into the Chassis, put on Asbestos brakes, and Drive around without any handbrake at all. We looked and it was disconnected at the back wheels.

Its got its own story!!!

Shouldn't have got rid of those brake pads....

Really a nail though? Welding at least!

Cvs
it is a place to start

locktight should never be used on that outer cv nut

anyway get a workshop to take them off and service the auto
