Bought a flood affected TJ Advance at auction. Been so happy with my TS Advance I had to get another. Need to check ECU and TCU (or are they combined in the TJ?).
Need HELP, where are they/it located? Any tips on removing them and any tips on cleaning up a water logged car much appreciated. I'll keep you posted on how the project pans out.

It is 06/2002 model. Is this TJ series 1 or 2?
It is auto. Do they have a tranny fluid cooler.....if not this will be a priority.
Then will have to flick the steel rims and get some nice wheels, probably 16 inch, maybe Verada (or Magna Sports etc). Does anyone know if Mitsubishi 380 rims fit?
I assume the tranny uses same fluid as TS (sp3 I think it is called).
Also looking for a spoiler.....any thoughts welcomed.

Any common problems with the TJ?

Thanks in advance for any info.

ECU/TCU are combined. They're in the center console up close to the fire wall. You'll need to take the side trims off the console to get to them.
Change your engine oil and trans oil.For the trans use Mitsi ELC 4-speed or Castrol TQM-SP.The only tranny cooler is the one through the radiator.
380 rims bolt straight up.
You should change the carpet in the car.At the very least you should remove it so it can be dried out properly, but I recommend you get a new carpet.

Series 2 went on sale in july 2002 as far as i know, which can be identified by the tiptronic transmission and digital dash and i think ABS was standard. If your car has these then it will be a series 2 i'd say.

i'd pull the carpet and seats out to check that there is no sitting water inside(if the water got inside) there is a whole heap if rubber gromits in the floor that you can pop out to drain any water. otherwise i cant see any problems as most of the running gear is quite waterproof(except maybe some of the electrical systems). we've had to do this a couple of times at work for various reasons, cars seem to be fine after a good nature bake and blow out with compressed air.

Sort all the other issues before you start on rims etc.

Remove ecu see if you can dismantle and dry it right out. Even spray contact cleaner through it.

Dry what you can out as much as you can before you even start it incase something does short.

Good luck with it.

The car is up and running. She came up a real beauty. Lots of hard work but certainly worth it.
BTW if anyone ever has to replace an ECU, you will find you have to replace the BEM (Body Equipment Module) as well and you will need a key of the same set or a new one for Mitsubishi dealer to code.
I have a number of questions about the TJ.
Is there an external (spin-on) filter for the automatic transmission and where is it? If not I assume there is a filter inside the sump.
The driver side (RHS) control on the centre air vent does not move much, definitelY not as much as the one on the LHS.
The wiper arms are going white because of corrosion and soon they will look like the wiper arms on many Magnas I have seen. What's the best thing to do.
Mine doesn't have a cover over the battery. What is standard for the TJ?
Fuel gauge is on steroids, when the ignition is turned on, it jumps violently (can even hear it bounce). IS this normal.

Your input much appreciated.

hehe, where do i start?.....

anyway, in regard to your last post, i can answer your question about the battery cover....

as far as I am aware, these were ditched in the series 2 TJ's as it has been a common problem of batteries dying prematurly due to heat build up with the cover on...
