Amazingly, I've never had a car canaried. Came close once or twice, including whilst out on a cruise.

Its the lowest point of the car because on our VL, the exhaust is like 3 cm to low and doesnt clear 100 mm.

Canaried is a yellow sticker, this is a white one (minor defect). oh wait... you're banned

Cheers again guys, like I said, I think the cop was having a bad night, I didn't get to see transformers that I was going to see that night, was on the side of the road for 45 minutes so I missed half of it. :(

In Sa it not from the lowest point to the ground (as in clearance)

Its done by the centre of the wheel to the lip of the guard, correct me if im wrong? But thats how theyve done it on other cars of ours.

Do you know what the limit is for a magna? Its crap, they can defect them on suspiscion of being to low or sus of anything!!! they are not mechanics and should therefore not have the right to defect anything! My brother had a calais defected on suspiscion of being too low and had to spend $2000 on other things to get it passed.... wasnt even too low in the end!!! (Because of the lip on the rear guard above the wheel- vp calais)

Sa only has white defects too no matter how bad it is, and theres no difference between minor and major defect... youve still got to go and have it totally checked for roadworthiness, that just measures the amount of effort theyve put into checking it out... Unless its a police station check, but yea, height isnt.

Im sorry to hear about that, do you have something else to drive, or you getting it off sraight away?

How did it happen, just pull you over or was it an RBT or something? Anyway, not good and completely unfair... they should go pick on some piece of crap driving around, not some tidy looking car like yours!!

Alex.

either is window tint... instead you go to regency and get another sticker for stupid stuff like rear bumper bar not lining up with car, two missing plastic clips from front bar, solid urethane engine mounts, etc

Yer, you're quite right Alex. I'm about 50mm over now. :P

So far, changed springs over, changed exhaust over, changed air intake over, taken a few "other" under bonnet things out.

Still have to do, inner left hand CV boot, engine mounts -- thats about all I could find to do, no doubt they'll find something for me to do :doubt:

Booked in for next Monday.

like carcycle said, in SA they measure brow height (centre of rim to lip of guard) so bigger rims doesn't help. bigger rims would only help raise the car off the ground and clear the 100mm limit in some other states.

cheers,

That's pretty stupid with the brow height, as it's open to interpretation, at least the nothing's lower than 100mm is an absolute.

A Canary in Victoria's a minor defect, the Red sticker's when the car's put onto a tow truck

Got off defect a week ago from now, I've had the flu so I've been a bit slow lately.

Big thanks to Adam and Bill for the help with the engine mounts (and all else we did that night, lol).

Things I did on the car before taking it in include,

4 Sikaflex solid engine mounts (old ones were stuffed)
Chip is windscreen repaired
Retread tyres for the front
Stock springs back in
New bumper from a GT that lines up and isnt all busted up (yay elante lip finally)
New passenger side driveshaft and CV joints, boots were split (both sides now new, did driver side a few months ago)
Change of brake fluid, old stuff was black
New waterpump, old one was leaking a bit, and wait till I post a pic of the condition of the pump inside
New noalthane swaybar bushes, old ones were cracked

Hmmm, think thats about it.

Gave it a good clean, inside and out, and gave it a good engine degrease before taking it in to regency.

After 45-50 minutes of having this guy poking and poding my car and getting me to drive here and there on to rollers, it passed with flying colours. The guy even said he was happy with how clean a car it was.

I'm happy it's all over, and also happy to know my car has a RWC, YAYY!!!!
