Hi Guys. Today I have bought my first project car (and first Mitubishi). It's a Maroon 95 TS Executive Sedan and I scored it for $200 ($270 including towing).

I have had a browse through this forum and there is plenty of great information which is going to be needed as it needs a lot of work done to get it up to roadworthy, and I don't know much other than the basics. I have a lot of learning to do!

Some of the things I need to have done, which I will be doing myself over the month or two;

Valve Stem Seals replaced (It smokes like nothing I have seen before, and was run while empty of oil for a fair while too)
Replace radiator
Replace shocks front and rear
Replace front grille
Roof fabric has caved in
New bootlid garnish
4 new/near new tyres
A couple of interior mods (LED interior lighting, audio upgrade etc)
Repair minor dints in the side and bonet
Wash and wax (it looks like it was in a dust storm)

I have already taken out the headliner and will fix that this afternoon and I picked up a battery ($25) and radiator ($75) from the wreckers this morning and some Nulon 40-70 Extra Thick Oil from Autobarn also. I am looking to get a roadworthy certificate with a challenging budget of $500. I also managed to break that little hose that goes from the front part of the engine (where the oil gets put in) up to the main part of the engine so if anyone know that name of that part let me know so I can replace it.

I am sure I'll be on this forum picking up as much advice as I can quite often, and if anyone knows of any good suppliers, wreckers and mechanics in the Brisbane area let me know. I'll post pics of it through the stages for anyone interested.

RE: the broken hose, sounds like a breather hose, pretty sure the replacement is some fuel hose from Supercheap etc. Comes in a roll of about 1m, should be fairly obvious which stuff to get, just browse through the hoses till you see something about the same diameter. Think it comes in blue and red (though it fades badly).

RE: the smoke, if it's smoking that badly, maybe it's more serious, like the rings are gone?

Would replacing the rings involve having to pull the engine out of the car?

If you have to ask that I'd be going to a mechanic pal

I am pretty confident I will be able to do it myself, I just haven't looked into how to do it yet which is why that question was asked. I'll read up on it tonight to give myself a better idea on whether I'll give it a go or get a mechanic to help out with it.

This a a very large job just to open up and close up the engine like this. Im not sure on the gen2 bottom end, crossmember and sump specs but there is two ways, open sump, open head, disconnect con rods and push up the piston to the top, or remove the crank all from the bottom end if the engine is out, gearbox off, water oil pumps out... You dont just change rings on a job like this, you might as well do everything you can while your in there and if your rings are gone your bearings are gone too. You will get in a world of trouble putting this all back together, timing would be the big one, you can cause allot more damage if you do something wrong.

If its just blowing smoke try ring cleaner , you buy it in a bottle and add to your fuel.

That's not a bad idea. I'll give that a go first and see how it works out.

Does it blow smoke all the times, or after revving after idling for some minutes.

If it's only blowing smoke after idling, the stem seals are gone, if it's more often, pull the engine down and rebuild it.
