Got my new clutch in from Exedy yesterday, almost looks too good to throw in the car

http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/9871/picturefs6.jpg

Its a cushion ceramic button clutch, with a pressure plate that has 27% stronger clamping load than a standard presure plate. Was going to get a billet flywheel as well but sometimes you just have to draw the line somewhere. this should help throw the car down the quater mile a little quicker, seeing the night i got my 13.6 i was nanna shifting like a learner driver in a charade.

hope to get it installed in about 2 weeks time

Good luck with it. I love mine now - but I honestly don't think it helps the 1/4 mile time. Both Meh and I have the same (or very similar clutch), and neither of us were having much luck getting good 60' times when we were at willowbank last.

*edit* - Just dug out an old pic of my clutch and it's not the same. Mines solid plate with 5 "pucks". No idea what difference that makes.

not too worried about my 60 foot times as i was loosing time in my shifts. The clutch was slipping for half of 2nd gear and i could of made a cup of tea in the time i was taking from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th. Thats where i know i will make up some time

I had one installed last week. Should have done it about 18 months ago.

Much, much nicer than the original clutch and it has really good modulation. The original clutches are only good up to 180kw which means mine was slipping like a mofo when I turned the volume up to 11. Now all I get is sweet, sweet torquey goodness to the wheels.

Mmmm, gotta love that torquey goodness.lol

my understanding is the puck clutches give less rotating mass and a higher clamp pressure per inch because it's not distributed over such a large surface area. and unsprung will be less friendly to drive than a sprung plate

Your clutch is pretty similar to the one ive bought for my car, only difference to yours jase, is i got a Extra heavy duty 1350Kg clamping force pressure plate but still with a cushioned ceramic button clutch disc.

Oh and mines a metallic purple colour where yours is pink. lol

i remember you telling me about that one. I priced both up and when dollars were talking i went the excedy one (tightass!) If a stock clutch can hold near 200fwkw im sure this one will hold the 200+ coming soon

I hate button clutches, harsh on the drive train to, I've gotten a Modified heavy duty with EVO 9 something in it, again it's a megatron special.

A "cushioned" button clutch isnt harsh on the drivetrain, due to it still having a sprung centre on the clutch disc and it also has the sandwich material between the disc facings exactly like a "standard" clutch disc.

Your thinking of the solid centred "puck" or "paddle" clutch which is either in or out and arnt very streetable.

The old cushioned button clutch i had in my car for 4yrs was as easy to drive as the stock mitsubishi unit.

If red cars are faster than, say, black - makes one wonder what would pink clutch do
But looks kinda nice.....

will that affect the friction point of the clutch? my friend bought an excede clutch (not sure which) for his van about a year ago and while the old clutch was in the van i was able to drive it no problems, but now since hes got the new clutch in it i find that the friction point is practically on the floor..?

Depends.. if its a hydrolic clutch its self adjusting.. therefore it will start out being close to the floor. As it wears it will get higher..:)

... and if it's a cable system, re-adjust the cable. I personally prefer clutch pedal where the release point is closer to floor. So when u slam it down to floor to change and lift up again, it's just bit quicker. But, that's just a personal choice.
