I have decided to rebuild the head on my late TN EFI wagon. I decided to search for a TP or TN series head.I was originally keenly looking for a M4 or M5 thinking better stick to the norm. While in Melb I found a wrecked TP head M9!
And by the threads Ive read (refer "Head code yor" mad lanté) this should be a TR or TS as it all the markings of this type. Gee its a mystery and its still not clear. I'm hoping all is well when it comes to the fitting stage which will be in a few weeks time. I found cheap priced full valve regrind kits on ebay $59 plus postage.
Anyone have a clear understanding of the head codes?

if the M9 head is in good condition stay with it
you need to be mindful that the m9 head used roller rockers
as long as your cam shaft is smooth and no groves and the cam caps match you should not have a cam or rocker failure
only torque the cam cap bolts to 22nm max or they may strip
the VRS kit is the same as the TN/TP as long as it is for the 2.6 engine
that kits have all the gaskets needed to cover all the models of that block and engine
a lot of forum members have used the $59 vrs kit from ringwood parts and had no complaints
m9 head = TS
bolts up no probs to your block
have the option of putting solid lifters from a sigma, standard rockers from a TM-TP or roller rockers from a TR-TS. all will fit. the head would have been off a efi TS with roller rockers.
m9 would also mean a slightly different shaped combustion chamber. if you are still using the flat top pistons in your block, this head should increase compression a little bit. TS pistons are not flat like the TM-TP pistons.
anything else, just ask :)

Thankx BCX7 & Magna Buff.
I have a Gregory's manual plus downloaded material off this site. I should be OK. I have the matched camshaft and caps.A few of the lobes of the cam shaft do have grooves. Hopefully it'll bed in OK with its matched cap?
I have had the head tested both for cracks and pressure, then and shaved The machinist gave the head a good report.
After this work is completed I'II start on the gearbox. The release bearing (I think) is worn. Once the clutch is depressed the bearing rattle disappears.
Again thanks.

Easiest way to tell if it is a TR/S injected head is to look at the combustion chambers, if they are round it isn't injected TR/S if it is kidney shaped then it's an injected TR/S head.
