Hi, does anyone have a set of instructions and tricks to remove the centre dash fascia and replace the stock head unit in a TJ VR-X? I have looked at a couple of manuals and they invariably have instructions which are pretty useless and don't work.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Welcome firstly, I believe there is a guide on here somewhere done form a tj vrx by bain i believe. People will tell you search is your friend, it is, if you know what too search for :).
Check out the rest of the site, there are some other handy hints for other projects you might have underway.
I cant find it at them moment. Send Bain a PM and ask him if he has his guide to remove a headunit from a tj.

You will need this too:

basically you need to remove the top and bottom pieces in order to show the screws for the double DIN piece removal. The top and bottom ones are just pull off, but you need to hold them the right way or you may break something. I remember a pictorial guide on here somewhere for this, but i cant find it now. If you want a more detailed description, pm.

Here is Bain's console removal guide:

I am about to do a first HU installation myself and just stumbled across it :D

Its a pretty simple thing to do. Some advice would be to pull firm inorder to take some of the clips out, they are held in pretty tight. Other than that, just try to remember excatly how you took everything apart, ie the angles that allowed something to be budged free, makes it a little easier trying to put it all back together.

Apart from that, enjoy :)
