Hey guys i done a search but what i found couldn't helped me,
My drivers side window won't wind down, you have to physically push it down with your hands, it will wind up with a bit of help to keep it straight, i've had a look in the service manual but theres nothing there.
power windows aren't an option yet cause i can't be bothered so yea,
what do i need to fix it?
cheers

the door trim has to be removed
and you may find the cog has stripped on the door handle itself or the winder mechanism
easy fix is a part from the wrecker
use detergent/ jell or wd40 in the window slides as a temp fix
watch how they take one out and you will know how it is done
if not ask them if they will fit it
sort of on the same idea. on both of my second gens the drivers window has been a pain in the **** to wind up. I have to pysicaly pull it up at the same time as i wind/use the power window motor. Might this be the same problem? just in reverse

i actually thought that this was just a small problem on my 2nd gen only.. i didnt think anything of it to be a problem for other 2nd gen owners
from wat my problem was, i could only see that one side was pushing the window up more than the other, possibly a stripped cog, or maybe a missing bolt, wasnt sure.. never got time to fix it

Before pulling it apart try CRC Silicone spray on the felt runners. It may be all that is needed.

wouldn't it be easier to just go to the wreckers and rip a new one out? the whole assembly of cable and regulator?

To remove old window winder take off the door trim as described.
You will need:
Size 10 spanner, a screwdriver
Time taken: 10 minutes.
Method:
Once you have removed door trim, there will be a plastic covering which will need to be removed. just rip this, it's un necessary.
Wind window down so that you have access to two screw found in the window glass itself. remove these screws and set aside for re-installation later.
*CAUTION*- the window glass will become detatched from the regulator after this and will fall down and possibly break if not handled correctly.
Place the window glass gently on the bottom of the door.
Around winder cog, there are three size 10 bolts. undo these and set aside for re-installation later.
Towards the inside of the door, on the bottom, there are two size 10 bolts, exactly like those previously removed. Ensure that these are fantening the window regulator rail to the door. Remove these bolts and set aside for later re-installation.
Follow the regulator rail towards the top of the door. You will find another two size 10 bolts, exactly the same as those previously removed. Remove these.
**CAUTION**- The regulator rail will become detached and could fal on window glass, resulting in breakage or chipping of glass.
Manipulate detached regulator rail out of space provided to fully remove.
Installation is reverse of removal.

Place the window glass gently on the bottom of the door.I had to remove some power windows today (;) ), and I found it best to actually remove the glass after unbolting it, grab it from the top from the outside of the door (ie stand on the skin side rather than the trim side), and pull up and out. With a little manoeuvring it safely comes right out.

I dunno, I've found that with just normal wind-up windows, you can place it on the bottom and it'll be completely out of the way. Then again, there's no motor involved there. you may well be correct.

Not saying your way won't work, I just prefer to have it completely out of the way to make sure you don't accidentally smash it when moving the stuff around.
