Hi, was wondering if anyone face this same problem with my automatic TE magna. Everytime, when I step on the brake at a junction, I can feel the car jerk when the transmission fall from 4th gear to maybe 1st gear. At the same time, I can feel a jerk when engaging 3rd and 4th gear. Sometimes, the car would even vibrate when engaging 3rd gear. It is has been almost a week since this problem happens and I hope there is no damages done to the gearbox. Hope someone could help. Thanks.

How long has it been since you've had a service done to your auto, or even just a fluid flush?

Yeah happens to me all the time. Try disconnecting your battery for about 15 mins (reset ECU) or so just to be safe, reconnect it and turn the car on just leave it idle for another 5 / 10 mins. That jerking around for me, OR i havent tried this way yet but apparently after reconnecting the battery and starting again leave it idle for a minute than get in the car and change from Park to Neutral leave it for a few seconds, Reverse to neutral and follow through with the rest of the gears.

Its my dad's car and he just give it to me. I guess its been like a year, just check on the fluid and it looks brown. Getting a fluid flush tommor to see how the situation will be. May try to reconnect the battery as well. Will keep you guys posted.

Oh no, the automatic transmission specialist found some metal chips in the transmission oil and the transmission is slow in responding. So he reset the TCU for me as well. He quoted to get a new transmission gear cost 3.5K. Thats too expensive. What you guys think? Is the car driveable?

Yeah just drive it - the transmission expert is lying to you and it will be fine.
But seriously, What do you expect us to say? The trans is fuggered and needs to be fixed. I'm sure you could get cheaper quotes but any tranny work is $$$

Mmmhhh... mine was doing similar "tricks" for several weeks. Before it totally detonated....
Currently still admitted to 'box hospital with expected lenght of stay one a week and should be discharged in few days.
Cost? Total re-built generally 2500-3000 bux. But I'm getting nice a deal, but still, expensive stuff.
Apparently I gun (hi revs) the car too much!

continue to drive it as much as you can before you have to get a new box. just look on ebay.

intresting now that means the friction and drive plates are imbedded with the metal filings
these come off the roller bearings and chipped or broken cogs
no chance there
full rebuild or s/h one from a wrecker
the oil pump and torque converter will also have the metal in them
the kickdown drum and kickdown band will also be damaged
bad luck

My advice, just get fluid changes every now and then.
My KE takes about a week to turn red fluid into black, and lots and lots o metal chunks in it everytime I change the fluid.
However, this has been like this since I bought the car (~80,000km ago) so Id just keep driving it until it fails, no use running up km's on a new box when your old one still functions to 95% of its capacity.

Thanks guys, I will just do a transmission oil change every now and then till the transmission fails then change to another car rather than getting the transmission overhaul.
