Can people tell me what possible dramas one could have if one doesn't replace an Engine mount bush that is busted?

Q: are our Engine mounts Hydro type, eg, fluid inside them?

Nope they are just rubber. Mine has crapped itself all over the place. I have bits hanging out of the sides and stuff lol.

the magna's engine being a 60 degree (from mem) V6, should have most vertical and transverse vibration pretty much under control. in fact, with a proper engine mount design, there isn't a need for a counter-balancing shaft. the engine mount's purpose is to damp any residual vibration. so when the mounts fail, you basically get some vibration of the engine block. damage might ultimately be caused by the vibration. but that should be a really long time for a 60-degree V6... if it does happen. somebody correct me if my theory is wrong :D i know when my mounts were busted, though unsure how busted, it was noticeable but nothing that would call for drastic measures.

meh, i had mine done the other day (top mount, drivers side), cost me $237....

part was $217 direct from mitsu, and i had my mechanic stick it in as he has all the tools... its an easy job, as the mount comes fully with the cast section around it... job is dead easy if you have a trolley jack and a torque wrench!!! its only 4 bolts!!!

it was cracked probably similar to your's, and it had been happening for a while, the new one has made a HUGE difference to how the car feels... its so much smoother and its stopped the shudder when you take off slowely!!!

i replaced my engine mounts with repco aftermarket parts, instead of going genuine, the probs i encountered 1:checking engine bay after doing 9 hour drive just to make sure all fluids were good and found the rear mount hanging on by 1cm of rubber! and front mount not much better ,couldnt get genuine parts as i was on holidays, my home town dealer couldn't get stock for a while  2:it was the front and back engine mounts that were replaced.left and right were good still. :) 3:aftermarket repco parts were about half price(generally good quality). 4: my brother is a mechanic and lives in albury so thats where i sourced my parts from. :) 5:took a very easy drive to albury the next dayand got the parts.6:next day used my brothers work to do mounts.7: each engine mount had a different internal bolt hole diameter and external diameter so know and get the correct sizes for internal and ext diameters( i used a ruler for outside and internal verniers for the bolt hole(int) diameter). :) 8: had to use a engine hoist to take the weight of the engine while it was unbolted(fwd and back mounts only unbolted) as i also had to unbolt the cross member to get access. 9: engine mounts are hydraulically press fitted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and have to be orientated correctly to face direction of travel should have arrows on the mounts to show correct orientation. 10: the rest was resonably easy we pressed the old mounts out then made sure the new mounts were orientated right and pressed fit them in to the mounts. 11: install them into position put everything back together double checking along the way so we didnt miss anything. with new engine mounts the car felt very solid to say the least it looked like i had a v8 under the bonnet by the way the car rocked at the lights it was great! anyway i hope this helps you :D

Ihad to replace a bottom engine mount on 98 V6 (covered under Mitsub warrnty) after giving a bootful round a corner, engine twist under load caused the alloy housing on mount to bust off, I heard something fall off and bounce along so turned around and picked it up off road...
I asked RPW how their twin turbo monster copes on engine mounts, they told me its not uncommon and they do a mount with urethane instead of rubber that fixes the weakness.

correct me if im wrong, but the reason the magna doesnt "rock" like a holden or ford V8 is cos its turned the wrong way???

cos i asked my mate why his FPV ute would rock (which by the way looks and sounds ****in awsome - rocking motion that is :P!!!) and he said that the magna engine is turned the wrong way to 'off balance' the car or something.
bascally, the engine is turned the wrong way for it to rock the car. am i right?

Yeah the torque pulls the engine which in turn rocks the car, in a North/South set up engine that would be the case.

In an E/W config it's not usually going to rock it, not as much as a N/S anyway

yep, think about if the rwd engine twists under power against the direction the crank spins, then it throws the body a bit along with the weight of the engine, looking from the front of the car that rocks it sideways.
