Hey everyone

Finished my sound deadening yesterday so thought I would throw some pics up from start to finish. Total cost was $241 delivered for the Dynamat Xtreme bulk pack 9 sheets (3.3sqm) from Ebay and $50 for 8.5m x 1.8m of decent carpet underlay from Carpet Warehouse in West Gosford.

I had enough Dynamat to do all the doors (inner and outer panels) plus parcel shelf, with one sheet left to cover parts of the doors again, mainly over the locking mechanisms. With the exception of the odd cut on my hands/fingers from the aluminium backing, this stuff was very easy to work with, cutting to shape involved only using scissors, and no heating required. Good value for money. To ensure the lock rods were not obstructed by Dynamat, I cut pieces of the Dynamat backing paper and placed it over the lock rods so they would slide without obstruction. I also got some 3mm chip board to cover the service holes which were taped in place then covered.

The underlay is about 10mm thick and there is two layers of it on the parcel shelf on top of the Dynamat. This was almost the worst job trying to get the parcel shelf and speaker covers to fix back over.

There is one layer behind the rear seat back rest and this was the worst job trying to get the seat to hook over the four prongs.

There is two layers of underlay beneath the rear seat base.

There is one main layer of underlay cut to shape to fit the floor. However, I added 4 pieces beneath that layer in each foot well, as well as pieces along the transmission tunnel and against the firewall. I hot glued the underlay in the drivers footwell as this will see the most traffic and therefore, I wanted to limit the possibility of it moving.

There is also one layer cut to the shape of the boot floor carpet. I still have over 2sqm left so I might put another layer in the boot or onto the door trims.

In summary, there is less road noise and the doors shut with a thump with not a sound coming from them anymore over bumps etc. I can also barely here the central locking. I should be putting in new speakers shortly so I guess there might be some more improvement to be had there.

Any questions let me know.

Fantastic job. Do you find the carpet under the parcel shelf stopped all rattles there? (wait, do you have a sub?) On mine I used a sheet of foam, but now the parcel shelf bulges. Also, did you have trouble making the carpet fit the contours and bulges of the floor pan and still have tha factory carpet sit over the top? And did you put a layer of carpet between the door trims and the door?

looks like you have done an awesome job mate, well done.

i am looking at sound deadening my magna shortly, but i was going to get two extreme bulk packs, although looking at yours now, it looks like just the one is plenty??

Well done, it's something I've always wanted to do, but just cbf'd. How long did it take from start to finish.

Also.... what's with your glove box??

Thanks for the comments guys and to answer your questions:

D-VAN - Nope, no sub and I don't hear anything from the parcel shelf but to be honest I didn't hear anything much from it before unless going over big bumps but it was probably moreso something in the boot. It does sit noticeably higher though.

The hard part was screwing those speaker covers on through two layers. I had to sit in the car, press down on the cover with one hand with everything I had and reach through the ski port ready to screw it down with the other. The floor carpet posed little problem. You might be aware that there are plastic on the sides of the carpet which hook over the door sill plate. It was just a matter of stretching it over to hook on, then snapping on the door sill plates over to hold it in place. Also, because the carpet sits higher, I had to put more pieces of underlay under the transmission tunnel which made the centre console bin a little difficult to screw into place. But I just sat on the lid (100kg lol) to make it align with the brackets and then screwed it down. The underlay went over the front seat bolts and other bulges in the floor pan without problems, it's just a tighter fit. I mean including my floor mats, there is 3 layers of underlay (the carpet itself has its own dodgy layer as well) and 2 layers of carpet. As for door trims, I will probably add underlay inbetween the trim and door next week sometime. But the doors are already pretty quiet now.

hlll3 - One bulk pack is plenty for the doors and parcel shelf, but with two I guess you could also do an entire boot or an entire floor.

Black Beard - It took me 3 afternoons from about 1pm until dark so around 12-13 hours. The glovebox, like the pillars and centre console lid, are trimmed in material.

1 bulk pack isnt enough of you want to do the front doors for a stereo + other bits. but if its just deadening to lower road noise, 1 is a good start, then decide if you need more :)
