View Full Version : I have joined the 3rd generation
I have pretty much sealed the deal on a 2002 TJ (?) Magna LE. It is black, with heaps of kit as standard. 16" alloys, boot spoiler etc etc. I am trading in my TS Magna Advance, and they offered a very reasonable $2k for it!
The new Magna is almost showroom condition, with 4 brand new goodyear eagle tyres, and just had its cambelt and major service done since its just clocked 100,000km's. It drives beautifully, and that 3.5 is a sweet engine! 3 yr warranty too. I will pay around $11k after the trade-in. I know this is a little high, but the 3 year/70k km warranty with Holden is pretty good i reckon.
Went to see a 2002 Magna Sport in black and it was absolutely drop dead gorgeous. Only problem, it was for sale at a dirty car yard on parramatta road, and there was NO log book or service history on it. Very ticky top end after idling for 5 minutes as well. Also, thick white gunk on underside of oil filler cap and on dipstick. It hadnt been serviced in a long time and had done 166000km's. Would have been an awesome buy because it was only $9k!

Sounds like you picked the better car between the two of them - welcome to the Black 3G club (not that I've been here long either lol).
At the end of the day, sounds like you got a better condition car for only 2K more.
The other sounds like it will need much more than that spent on it over the next few years.
Pics when you've got them please! :)

SELLOUT!!
:D
Shame you had such bad luck with the 2nd gen, probably jaded your view of them?
not at all mate, my 2nd gen is a superb car, i just cannot justify spending upwards of $5k to keep it roadworthy. I would feel like i was pissing money down the drain.

Sounds like a sweet buy. That thick white gunk was probably because it has coolant leaking into the oil. Congrats on the new car. The TJ is a sweet vehicle!
here she is in all her glory! Bit dirty because Holden only got it in yesterday after a customer traded it in for a brand new HSV R8 :gtfo:
Sorry about the lame pics, only had camera phone with me

I can't believe someone actually traded in the beautiful Magna for a Holden  . Still, it ended up being a blessing in disguise for you. :P

About time you changed your signature to something similar to mine :D
When you talk about prices for lowering, are you talking just springs, or the lot, springs,m suspension, camber kit?
I got SLF and LR Lovells, KYB struts and adjustable camber kit supplied and fitted by RPW sometime ago for about $1000. Honestly, i got jipped, coulda got a better price.
If your shocks are in good nick, just get your prings replaced should set you back about $400fitted. If you want the suspension done for better handling I'd suggest forking out the extra dosh and get a quote for some Koni suspension.
definately up for something to really improve. Apparently the TJ's arent bad handlers as standard anyway right? been looking at whiteline stuff last night :)
