Never done it myself, but apparently "popping the clutch" is a pain in the ass. Have heard that comment from a couple of different sources - in reference to manual 3rd gens.

Yeah I've heard that too - when my clutch needed to be replaced I got my mechanic to do it coz I didn't have the time. Mitsi said it was a 7hr job (3.5hrs to get it out and the same to put it back) - and that's how long it took this bloke to do it (9am - 4pm)

off the top of my head...

You need to drop the box... and to do that that includes removing the driveshafts and such, disconnecting hydrolic lines and shifter cables. Once you have undone all the bolts on the box, there is a hole about the size of a 5c piece uptop. You have to stick a flathead screwdriver in there and "pop" the clutch. Only then you can drop the box out. Then you will have to undo the clutch housing and stuff. Take the clutch plate out, remove the flywheel for machining and so on. Then do the reverse.

took my mechanic 3.5 hours, charged me $360 for labor, which included rear main seal, and fluid replacement

every other mechanic quoted $550 minimum for labor

it's as easy as a bitch apaprently, but shouldn't cost you anymore than $400 through a decent mechanis. Expect to not have your car for 1-2 days also.

Yeah not to hard.. clutch is easy and dropping box is easy.. The only Hard part is getting the clip to let go of the gear box.. If u dont know how it works dont force it or even do it.. id suggest getting someone to do it.. when ya know what ur doing and doing it at home it will take all day..:)
