Hi, I intend to change my standard magna tail lights to Altezza clear tail lights but was wondering if this modification is legal in WA? And do I have to inform my insurance company for such changes? Thanks.

clear tail lights are illegal in any state
something to do with the reflector or something

Only if its the TE/TH/TF ones, PRetty sure the TJ ones are legal.

That's what I'm thinking, otherwise the lexus IS300 wouln't be allowed in aust!what a crime.

the TJ ones are fine, I've seen plenty of them around.

*EDIT*- Just wen on your profile and noted that you have a TE. in that case, the tail-lights for TE are illegal. Don;t know why. Looks better just to tint the normal ones a bit.

the frosted tail lights for the TE TF and TH are illegal because they dont have a reflector in them so they are not ADR approved, this how ever can be over come by getting some reflectors and placeing them on the rear of the car somewhere they can be seen...

It's more indepth than that. They actually have to be certified as ADR compliant, and 90% of the ones you see around are not certified. Certification is not a simple (or cheap) process.
Believe me, I've looked into manufacturing, and asked my father in detail about it (he's an RTA-approved motor vehicle certifying engineer). He's got shelves full of the applicable Design Rules that they must be certified against.

just looking at lenda's fristed tail-lights, they look like they've got reflectors in them. on the bottom corner nearest the bootlid. So it can't just be that they don't have reflectors. I think it's more the fact that the reflector isn't coloured or isnt as reflective as coloured ones or something.

if they arent ADR approved, ur insurance company will void ur insurance if they even get a hint theyre on there, and if theyre on there during an accident (and its not like u'll b ripping off ur taillights after an accident). Basically if ur in an accident, insurance may not cover u (especially if u get rear-ended), and u'll be up for the total cost... which may just suck if it gets written off, or the other party does. oh and cops can yellow sticker u.

but enjoy ur rice, just know one day it may cost u with very penny u have

i got in an accident, not a rear ender though, and they covered me, he saw the lights as well.

i thought if u did get in an accident they would just pay for other damagae and u cova the defected items, is this the same for suspension.

the TJ onwards ones, while not ADR approved, probably would be if they could cough up the money for the testing etc. TE-TH ones are evil

nope, its why any insurance company asks if its a legal mod, saves their ass. it all depends as to whether it was deemed that it may have had an effect in the accident...

as i said, imagine someone goes up ur backend... if i was the other driver, all i'd need to say is i couldnt see ur brake lights properly because of the stupid lights, ur insurer tells u ur up sh*t creek because the lights were deemed to cause the accident, and they werent listed on ur policy, and were infact illegal.

some ppl really should talk to their insurance companies more :doubt:

the major issue about these tailights isn't their legality... its that they're fugly and identify you as trying waaaay to hard. Infact if this was Top Gear, and we had to place them on the cool wall, they would be put next to the pink convertable nissan micra at the extreme end of seriously un-cool!

Just a quick problem, I've told the insurance company that my car has alloy wheels. I've recently changed them to 17" ones instead of the basic verada ones i had on before. On the statement I got a few months ago, it just said under headline "Modifications"- Alloy Wheels

Do I have to tell them bout this? Also, parabolics and KS rear garnish. Does the insurance comp need to know about these aswell?

rims, are 17s legal on ur car? should be fine, just make sure they have a value on them (otherwise u wont get much if theyre stolen)

paras and garnish, i'd say they dont hafta know, unless u want to add the value (again if theres an accident, do u want them covered and replaced, or do it out of ur own pocket)

17's are legal, but I think they're 7.5 wide, which isnt. doesn't say on inside of rim, but tyres are 235/45 and it scrubs on full lock.

There 235 tyres which stick out PAST The rims which are only 1cm or so off standard, standard being a 205, and a 215 fits on the standard rim anyway. You'll be right

total width permitted for a 2ND GEN is 7 inches. anything more than that be it 10mm or 20mm, is extra width which might void insurance. by what I understand anyway.

Ahh the joys of having a boot spoiler! :) I have LED's in my frosties so they are quite visible, but if he tried whipping that excuse he would have to be deemed blind because he surely can't miss the boot spoiler light (eye level mind you).

I like them. Don't buy cheap painted globes though. They go pinkish and ghey. Get some decent red LED's for the brake lights, you'll love yourself for it.

should be fine, i think now they care more about load ratings etc. i ended up getting 18x8, where stock rada rim is 16x6, but meh :)
