I have got a quote from a place in the outer east of Melbourne that says they can drop my car 30-40ml and give a wheel alignment for less than $400. They will be using King springs. Everywhere else is quoting $500 and way up. One Bridgestone joint quoted $800-$900!
Pedders and Midas are both in the $500's. Do you think this independent joint is risky at less than $400 or is it a good deal? Or is everyone else stooging me???
Thanks guys.
Everyone else is stooging you, that's the price you should be paying. Get king lows installed all round.

depending on how you wanna go i would go superlows, the lows on a standard 3rd gen dont make it look that much lower at all
mightaswell carry around a few bags of dry cement

you can get lowered for a little as $200
but thats compressed springs...
not relly that much different to kings aftter a month or so really but you choose exactly the height you want :D
im getting 4" drop in a week or so costing me $180 all up! compressed
Would it look as low as a standard TL/TW VRX?
vrx is only 10-15 mm lower. king are about 40. king sps are 30. dont mix/match lows and superlows.

$400 for lowering and an allignment is a decent price mate. Supply alone for the springs at trade price will be around $260-$300.

+1. It was $220 for springs for me, plus if I was to do it myself a min of $45 for an alignment (essential), $45 for spring compressors plus possibly $35 for a carton for a mates help and 3 hours in the garage. So $355 anyway, and cheap spring compressors are dangerous too.

Who are the good operators? How do Pedders, Bridgestone and Midas stack up? Thinking I will just go with a local private shop? Their prices are the cheapest so far.
Definitely won't try to do this myself, cripes that would be sheer bloody danger lol!

they are all crap, take it to a proper suspension place... they know how to do it and qiuckly my cars lowering jobs now take 1hr drive in drive out
when i got my springs done last time 3 tyre wheel suspension dealers and 2 pedders outlets turned up to this place to have springs and work done

king springs 45mm lower is the way to go. you'll get much better handling over std but it'll be a firmer ride. especially when you get new wheels.

they are a major distributor for kingsprings and will have them in stock, not sure on price... they dont do alignments..
they can reccommend a place for that, bt most tyre place will do a basic computeraignment ad they are all almost the same really

i know i'm a 2nd genner, but how do you get the springs compressed? does it give the car a bouncy and uncomfortable ride? i'm looking into lowering soon, checking out my options. my front tyres stick out of my guard a bit, so probably won't be able to go superlows, probably lows all around, or equivalent.
which is better? compressed or actual kings or lovells

Springs are compressed by being heated and squashed to the right height, where as purpose made jobs are wound to the right height to begin with.
I would recommend this guys http://www.centrelinesuspension.com.au/

If you don't want to go for Lows, why bother lowering to begin with? Not having a dig, but if you're only going to lower it another 10-15mm, you may as well just save your money, because it won't look that different. I went for King Lows all around on my TJ VR-X and most people don't notice it until I tell them (despite the 40mm drop).
I'd agree with NOSDTL and recommend the Lows. If you don't mind a firmer ride (which would probably come bundled with any lowered King springs anyhow), they're ideal - better handling, looks great, but still at a very practical height.
