The 3.5 is obviously quicker than the 3.0L, i would hunt around for a 3.5L for sure as the price doesnt vary much between the two!!

Check this thread out, has a good 3.0 VS 3.5 discussion.

I get 600+ ks out of tank in my 3.0 TF.
I get 500 - 550ks out my my 3.5 TJ AWD.
... thats all i can really say on the topic.
Its up to you.
That extra fuel with your 3.5 will no doubt be down to the AWD system

That's all nice but then there's important things like full floating pistons, 4bolt main bearing caps, thicker rods. The 3L is just too doughy vs the 3.5. Ask Screaming TE

the 3.0l maybe revs out a bit sweeter, but the 3.5 absolutely kills it for driveability, its just so responsive and torquey down low compared to the 3.0, much much better engine and barely uses anymore fuel.
cant think of a single reason why you'd go the 3.0 over the 3.5 unless you got a really good deal on a 3.0 or something

The 3L resale blows too.

3.5L without question. The 3.0's in manual form are definitely not slow, but the 3.5 is that much better.

Also some of the 3.5's are LPG compatible from the Factory. Particularly the Altera's and LS's.

I think the clincher is the Raptor Supercharger kit will most likely only support the 3.5L :D

ON PETROL
On a trip I get around 750kms to a tank.
Around town, ie: CBD couriering, I get about 400km to a tank.
On LPG
On a trip I get around 400kms to about 50ltrs.
Around town doing CBD Couriering I get 250-300kms.

Heres a bit of a comparison for you as i have a 3.0l TE 5Spd and a TJ Sports 5Spd, so kind of one end of the scale to the other!
My TE would keep up with dads VRX tippy, and he said he was struggling to keep up with me, it has panel filter, custom cold air, and a straight through muffler(thanks Phil). It goes really well, have always been happy with the performance, and if you hit the sweet spot off the lone it is a bullet, if you bog it down off the line, then you will think you are driving a 4cyl until you get up in the higher rev range. The panel and muffler definitely helped the car rev more. Before that, it would run out of puff at about 5000rpm, now it will go to about 6000rpm, still pulling.
Had the TJ for 1 week, does go noticeably better than the TE, but then again, over a stock 3.0 you are looking at a 23kW increase in power and a 52nM increase in torque. IMO its the cheapest power upgrade ever!
It may look like i am favouring the 3.0, but its not the way. As was said, unless you got a sweet deal on a 3.0 manual, or you could buy a 3.5 manual then i would go for the 3.5 any day.

62Nm :) I agree though, go for the 3.5.

this is no bull ;) after having both 3.0L and 3.5L auto's in the same model TH and 3.5L awd and now supercharged
the 3.0L sounded great but had little balls compared with the 3.5L (both auto)
and whats worst!!! is the 3.0L auto driven by my mate with 1/4 tank petrol lost in 1 drag and only kept up in several more to me driving a 140kw rodeo with full tank and 2 motorbikes in the back with all riding gear and more weight than stock (tow bar etc...)
the 3.5L auto was awesome off the line nail it and it spun a little hold it in 1st otherwise it'd shift too soon, i dragged off everyting in that...
the 3.0L engine sounds different though imho it sounds better

yer i dont know why but some 4wd's have a fair bit of go in them... obviously not much after 100kph but in drags etc... why is that?

engines that are tuned for low down torque, and a gearbox that is set up to take advantage of that, thats probly why! Torque is what gets you movin, horsepower keeps you movin.
I agree with the 3.0 sounds better, more raw and growly i reckon, or am i just a noob?

i was talking about fwd auto
but the awd's some go ok, mind did, it was the same in acceleration af a fwd auto...
they suffer from higher drivetrain losses and more weight, that what slows them down...
but more power soon fixes that
but if you talking about my ute, that didnt slow down at 100km/h it kept accelerating hard all the way ill electronic cut, i was dragging a guy in a beemer on the hwy and he only got away from me when i hit the speed cut damn it (also had 2 bikes in the back and 4 spotties on the roof and 31x10.5 tyres lol
it was all the gearing though cos the rodeo 3.2L is only 140kw and 265nm @ 4400rpm!! so it not low down power at all..
45 in 1st 80in 2nd 125in 3rd 160in 4th.... the trick to quick acceleration was flat changes though, otherwise you lost too much time constantly shifting gears....
and 0-100 was quicker in 2nd with 6000rpm launch wheelspin and off you go lol (gteched consistant 0-100 in 8.2-8.4 taking off in 1st, and 7.7-7.9 using 2nd)

If you want something easy and smooth to drive with good economy and rolling performance for overtaking, get the 3.5.

There is a definitely a difference with the later 3.5's. The torque difference if very noticeable.

I Have a TF sports manual. The only mod I have is a K&N panel filter. My mate has a TJ VRX manual and I am only a little slower. On average about my nose to his tail to about 110km/h. Anything above that is illegal. ( but the vrx increased torque really throws its weight above that speed)
