Hey people,
My first post, just want to say that its great to see a forum about magna's. I started liking magna's when i saw one of the Solaris's a couple years back, didn't end up with a solaris, but got a magna none the less...
I have been thinking of modifying my car a fair bit, i have just gotten as far as putting a Alpine Type-R sound system on the inside, but now i wanna look at putting the icing on the outside.
I want some suggestions on rims, exhaust/extractors, fuel catalyst, body kit.
I am in Perth and i have been looking at:
RPW - to get a Lukey Exhaust with some race extractors.
Fitch Fuel Catalyst F200 In-Line
Thats as far as performance goes, i assume...
Then i went to my local Bob-Jane and after seeing WopChops 19"s i went looking for some ROH-Vapours and the guys there said they don't make 19" for my car and that 18" is the biggest. They recommended some RJR Choppers or some RJR Zeniths?? Any ideas?
Lastly i headed down to Pedders and asked for everything to be sports style and lowered with front sway bar, and wheel alignment, this is what i got quoted:
Sports Ryder coils
Gas sealed strut
comfort gas shock
front 24mm bar
Is that about right?
Lastly, just want to know of a body kit i could put on the thing, at the moment its all stock...
The colour is Burgundy (maroon for some)
I am new to all this, all suggestions are great, thanks in advance.

The guy said 18"s are the biggest that fit on your car? If so hes wrong cause you can use 19"s and if you dare try 20"s!
Some members have the rear sway bar which they find very good for handling, personally i used KYB Excel-G shock absorbers all round which give a very stiff ride, and lovel suspension all around with a whiteline strut brace.
In terms of performance theres litte things you can do like a full exhaust system with extractors but expect to be hit with a proce of over $1200.
if you wanted a 40Kw increase right from the start do a DOHC Engine conversion (2 cams to 4, 12Valves to 24). But if you just wanted it to sound better just put a new muffler on the end.
Its really not worth spending money on the 2nd gen V6's to get performance.
Welcome to AMC!

I thought that might be the case with the rims...
The exhaust with extractors: $1000
Rims: $1850
Suspension System: $1450
Fuel Catalyst: $450
How much would a DOHC cost?
Sounds like i should trade it in a go for a newer V6 if i can?

YEah DOHC conversion will set you back around the $3000 mark give or take.
If you want power and cbf doing an engine conversion and dont really have that much of an attachment to the car then yeah probably getter off getting a TJ or something, although, power of that is still just as expensive, only diff being, is its alot faster out of the box.
Suspension (supply) should cost you $700ish
Rims....Well look around for a 2nd hand set, why you would buy a new set is beyond me unless you REALLY REALLY WANT THOSE RIMS.
and fuel catylyst? eh...with $450 you can fuly customize your interior and then some

stock for stock, if a 3.5L TH or TJ is within budget, that will make u alot happier, as well as having a newer car (more luxuries, better feel of the car, frameless windows ;) )... but also the extra money might not be there! question, is a $10k car financially viable? otherwise we'll suggest ways of making the TS more 'liveable' :)

$10K is fairly easy, but i was more going for the aesthetics of a nice car, so i would want to get the TH/TJ whichever you would recommend and then still want to spend a bit on doing that up.
How much would ya get for a TS? This is a 1996 with the new body, december i think.

hmm if its an exec, redbook states a tradein price of $900-$2200, so lets say anything up to $3k, maaaaaaybe $4k, but the higher the tradein just means theyre taking more off the top of the newer car.
well if u went for say a nice TJ, and u allowed around $8-11k, then u have a better start for modding imo. its always better to improve on something that doesnt need major repair work imo ;) so u'd be upgrading the look and feel, not repairing her. plus it would be a safer car, more power, less/no rust, less mileage etc etc.
u havent said ur age but i may be guessing 1st/2nd car? in that case TJs are great for a starter, good safe reliable cars with a motor that has a fair bit of kick to it!
might be worth considering before buying parts for the TS (but yes, the parts ur looking at can really turn around ur average TJ as well)

Well, i have been driving this TS for 3 years now, and i am 20 years old, so just started getting permanent work after study etc. So it might be worth just going the trade in, but i mean i could possibly get $5,000 privately for the TS? Its only done 149K, and i could pick up a TJ Exec for $10K here in Perth, so i then get a car loan for like $12K and do the thing up as well... Possibly...

What is the difference between a TJ and a TJ Series 2? both are executives 3.5L. Series 2 being 2003 model and the other 2002.

Well, looking at a trade in i can probably go for a 2005 model car... I am not huge on the looks with the newer bodies though. Is there any major differences in terms of engine between a 2003 TJ and a 2005?
If you had the option, would you go for a newer 2005 model?

18"s are enough. 17"s and 18"s suit the car percectly. Anything bigger looks silly and pimp wannabe cos the wheels end up looking too large for the car and not tastefully modded.
So go the 18"s!
You should post up and check out the threads in the second gen (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=11) section.
Post some pics of your ride in the "post your ride" (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50025) section too :)

Ok, i went out and traded in the old magna, and picked up a 2004 (LS i think), the colour is Sienna Red for $14K, came with 18" rims and new tyres!
Time to mod the thing... What to do?
I shall post pics when i have gotten through the paper work and driven it home.

It was a bit impulsive, but then again its the only car that i could find that had this colour at the same time, and i also felt that i should not have a $5K car with $6K of stuff hanging off it, when you can have a newer $18K car with $6K hanging of it, it just seemed a little more practical...
