Howdy All!
Just a question for all those with an aftermarket clutch, How does yours feel? Im looking for a clutch that will get rid of the vague feeling the stock clutch seems to have, and I would really like a bit more of a heavyer clutch pedal...
What do you guys recommend?
Thanks,

My experience going from std clutch to a dampened button clutch was that my left foot couldn't tell the difference in pedal feel.
I assume it's because it is a cable type clutch, and all the work is actually done by cables / pulleys etc (I'm just guessing here - don't really know how the clutch works). So yeah - it was like going from a fairly sloppy clutch with a vague pedal, to a clutch with bugger all "margin for error" and a vague pedal - which in a way is kinda worse. But you get used to it.

3rd Gens have hydraulically operated clutches.

When i went from the std clutch to the Exedy HD i could feel the difference.. was slightly heavier... nothing massive though. I'd recommend going for the Exedy or Extreme Heavy Duty range. Unless you are going for massive power there is no need to go any further.

I've got an Exedy Heavy Duty clutch in my 2nd gen - no problems with it.
I'd recommend it.

oh well - goes to show how much I notice changes to my car. Having said that however, the clutch went in when the turbos were being installed - so it wasn't like I dropped it off in the morning with the std clutch, and picked it up that afternoon with a HD clutch..... was more like 10 weeks between drives.
I still reckon the pedal feels vague as buggery though.

That's probably because it operates the accelerator :P

Pretty much all hyrdaulic clutches have bugger-all feel, although it does seem to improve with some aftermarket clutches.
I miss the days of driving around in cable-clutched old bombs. In comparison the clutches were MUCH heavier, had a nice mechanical feel to them, and you could physically feel the friction point through your foot.

Yeah...I know what you mean. My mate owns a 1975 HJ One tonner, with a worked 179 and a HEAVY as clutch pedal. I kinda struggle with it...:bowrofl:
But its really good fun...

My exedy Hd clutch in a 3.5l sports does shudder slightly on occassion. and have recently noticed that it will slip a bit on steep hill starts if the revs are a bit to high and i slide the clutch out to slow. If i dump the clutch it will grip and the wheels will spin, and it wont slip under maximum torque either. so its not like when the stock clutch failed.
Clutch is pretty heavy when compared to a small car (brothers getz and 180sx with a nismo aftermarket clutch in it), but not a major problem
Slightly off topic but how many kms are people getting out of there after market clutches. given the originals all seem to fail after 100 000 kms what should i expect out of my new clutch.
