hey guys i have just painted my mud flaps the other day and havnt had much success.
i gave them a good scrub then sprayed them and the paint separated straight away. so then i sprayed a primer on first and then painted them. they came up really good but as i went to put them back on the car the paint started to crack and flake off.

does anyone know how i can paint them without this happening?

i have just learnt from a few people, try a palctic primer, it is more elastic andd should give a little, butt as part that moves alot if u were to get it done, the professionals would probabaly have to add in a bitta elasticiser or soemthing...even then...

As paint sits on the surface it is not going to work, you would need to dye them some how. I can only recommend vynal dye. I have never used or seen it, but I have heard good things.

I used plastic priner on mine, I think about 4 coats. They lasted until rocks and stuff started to chip the paint off gradually. Firstly I washed them with Sugarsoap which breaks oil and grime well, then wiped with metho. About 4 coats of color on the top then.

Any auto store eg. supercheap, auto one blah blah will sell paint and primer for your interior plastic and vinly (sp?). That paint will work cause it's desinged to flex with the plastic or vinly products in the inside, so im sure it would be fine as long as you preped it good. Or just take them of like mine:D there a pic in my profile so you can see them without it.

Yep plastic primer...but dont paint the whole mudflap. leave the paint off the bootom to allow them to flex without pealing or scrubbing paint when going over visciuos speed bumps.

I'd say because you have a sideskirt kit on yours the factory ones won't fit so A/M ones were used

might be just that the mudflaps have been sprayed with armor-all or tyre shine. Have you tried cleaning them with wax and grease remover 'prepsol' before painting?

Sugarsoap (suggested earlier) aint too bad either

might be an idea to sand them down aswell, because you're probably painting onto a waterbased coating on the flaps as it is that's probably designed not to let things stick to it.
sand, clean, prime, paint.

i used a primer the first time and it all just flaked off. i tried auto pro and repco for a plastic primer but even kmart has a larger range of primers (but not a plastic one) then them. not in this town anyways. i didnt ask about ordering anything in or anything as i have a deadener alredy which im doing sum experimenting with at the moment. so far it looks like the paint my stick and not seperate iv tried a small patch of one flap so far. i sprayed it tonight and ill check it tomorro.
