hey all

i have an '02 verada GTV and am looking to upgrade the speaker system.

i have door-dash-delta speakers in at the moment (factory)

are there aftermarket brands out there that do 3x way splits?

if so...

1. what is the cheapest set going to cost?
2. what is the premium set going to cost?

ideally, i want a set of speakers that produce a huge ammount of bass (for 6" of course)

Cheers,

Jazack

Cheapest reasonable set (new) = $350

Most exxy set = $20 000+

many aftermarket brands do 3 ways.

I have Hertz 3 way splits up front in the Wagon.

Just walk into a good audio shop and ask - they'll show you what they've got.
Later down the track (like a 6-12mths) I'll probably be doing the same thing to the Ralliart.
Would be interesting to see what you find out/get.

are u thinking 3-ways just to use the stock locations? if so i dont believe the dash slot is the best way to go for the mids. maybe just go 2 ways, use the stock locations for the woofer (door), and the tweeter (delta). also can be easier to find 2-ways as oppose to 3-ways.

let us know wat sort of music u listen to, so we can recommend brands etc.

i'm looking at morel elate 6's, just the 2-ways. they go for around $600, good mellow speaker, good ranges, but they ask for around 200W

cheers for the reply's.

i listen to a wide range of music. rnb - techno - big bass - 80's - etc.

i want to use the existing locations to mount speakers. - is the dash location not ideal for the mid range?

would i honestly be better off with just a real decent set of 2 speaker splits?

if so, what brand/model do you recommend?

i enjoy the factory set up in it in terms of quality, but the volume isn't there.

in my other car i have type s splits and 3x ways running off kenwood amp + 15" CVR DVC running off an alpine class-d amp all running off alpine motorised ai.net head unit. i love the sound it produces but i don't want to go down that road again, what i want to do is upgrade the existing speakers using there existing locations and get as much bass as possible without subs.

i think i should have been more specific from the start. this is the plan:
- upgrade 6x9's to some huge bass producers (any ideas on what the better bass speakers are out there?)
- upgrade front splits (also for bass)
- adequately power them with one huge F%*k-off 4x channel amp.
- maintain existing head unit and use high level outputs to connect amps.
I want it to look completely stock but hammer.

Cheers,

Jazack

Give us a price range first.

Good speakers = Morel, Dynaudio, Boston, Vifa, Diamond, Oz Audio the list goes on.

6x9's dont produce bass, they produce midbass midrange and highs. ;) just keep in mind without a dedicated sub, you wont hear the full frequency range. Even a small 10" sub in a sealed enclosure will help out heaps in this department.

I think you will be better off spending money on a good pair of 2 way splits. Boston if you want clarity and good mid bass. Hertz if you want good a bit cheaper with good midbass

hard to say how much i am prepared to spend.

i guess it depends on value.

i am a bit of a tight ass, lol.

i guess it depends on value. if i see a (quality) $2000 pair of splits on sale for $800 i'd be interested. likewise if someone was selling type x splits for $20 i;d be interested.

value for money vs. quality would be the formula

ok then id look to spend $500 - $800 on splits. These will be the biggest determinant of the sound of your car. No amount of amplification or processing can make crap speakers sound good.

Have a listen to some dynaudio and morel, work your way from there. You will need to factor in sound deadening and door prep too.
