For some reason when I unlock my doors from the drivers side, the front passengers door unlocks briefly and then locks itself again. But if I unlock the doors from the passenger side, it stays unlocked. Is this normal behaviour? :?

If it's not, how would I go about making it work properly :?:

no not normal behaviour. did you install the central locking yourself or was it stock? if its a self done job then the actuator may be imporperly mounted or even if its a stock locking system the actuator might have moved or bolts might have come loose. that or its just wearing out. best way to check just take off your door cover and have a look. might need to buy new actuator. dont think itd be your CU but you can easily check by using a circuit tester to see how many times the CU is sending power to the actuator.

heh, i've noticed somthing similar to that. The driver's doorlock acts like a master for the other 3. When you press/pull the driver's door locker, the other 3 will do the same. My central locking is a bit iffy, and all I had to do was take off the little plastic trims around the physical locking bolt (that sticks up out of the door) and re-glue them on. seems that the locking bolt was rubbing on the trimming. I assume that yours is an 'insert the key into the door and turn' affair and not the 'little hand held woot wooter' type c/l? Seems by the sound of it that your prob happens to be in the front passenger door.

If it is factory you may need to lubricate the locking mechanism, this is one of the most overlooked parts of any car.

Thanks for the advice guys, but what I don't get it why it unlocks completly and the re-locks.

If someone is standing at the passenger door and is quick enough, they can open the door because it stays unlocked for about 1 second.

I would have thought that if it needed lubrication or the motor wasn't working, then it wouldn't open at all.

And what's even stranger is that when I unlock the passenger door using the key, it stays unlocked and doesn't re-lock (as well as unlocking all the other doors).

And yeh, the central locking is stock.

no the locl motor is not, for lack of better way of putting it, being told the door is unlocked due to the links being a bit tight. when you manually open it using the knob you are physically lifting it all the way.
I have had this same problem before and this was how it was fixed.

ok, cheers.

so i basically need to take off the door panel and use something like wd40?? on the mechanism?

That's it

How did you unlock the drivers door? I'm assuming its with the key. What if you unlock it while inside the car using the latch on the drivers door?

And is it only the front left passenger door messing up or are the rear locking also doing the same thing?

Yeh, with the key. It does the same thing if I use the latch on the drivers door.

And yeh, it's only the front left passenger door that is doing it.

My key will not even open the passenger door at all. :(

What about locking using the key in the passenger door. One of the keys that I got with the car won't unlock when I use it in the drivers door, but it will lock ok. Other key works fine though.

Figure it's just a shonky key so I just use the other one.

Yeah i think they're bad keys because they only work in the drivers door, won't lock or unlock the passenger door, and they have to go in the 'right' way you can't just put them in facing any way

My car didn't come with any keys, had to get mitsubishi dealer to do them.
