Hi looking at changing my exhaust system... tried the search button but found everyone talking about exhaust that made a note... I am after an exhaust that is quiet but makes a nice soft note only when pushed... i have heard my mate's xr6 and it sounds nice... on normal cruise, its soft or actually even quiet like stock exhaust but when pushed u can hear a soft note...
went into ebay to search for an exhuast system and only this came out...

Um... link didn't work :P

Go down to your local exhaust place and tell them what you want... they'll sort you out :)

use the magna sports or the vrx muffler. that will achieve what you are after. Many think they are the same, but dad had a tj vrx and i have a tj sports and the vrx was a bit louder, but not heaps.

Are they both the same year model?

The Lukey LR2779 is a straight-through muffler that's the equivalent of the VRX muffler.

I have one on my TJ Magna wagon, and am very happy with it - pretty quiet, but growls when pushed ;-)

Total cost was $180 including installation.

Cheers,
Martin.

Yes, add me to the list of happy Magna owners who have fitted the Magna Sports/VRX muffler!!!
I've got a TL AWD and I just swapped the standard muffler (dual outlet/pointing-down) to a factory Magna Sports muffler, and am really happy with it.
If you're after something mild, not wild, this is definitely your best bet.

hey guys... sorry about the link... anyway u can search ebay with "magna muffler" and it would show up as the one that is $350... which now i think is too expensive when mpot said he installed the The Lukey LR2779 is a straight-through muffler that's the equivalent of the VRX muffler. for only $180... anyone selling their vrx muffer? would they be direct bolt on?

hi was wondering since the Lukey LR2779 is similar to the VRX muffler does it mean that its as quiet as it?? as i am after something not that loud... just want a little note if i push the car a little

If it ends up loud, you can get them to throw a baffle onto it for like $100 or so. I did it to mine and it sounds great :) Also known as a hotdog or a resonator.

[TUFFTR] has one up for sale.

so when i purchase the Lukey LR2779 would i still need a resonator? and is the muffler DIYable? as in i heard its just unbolting some bolts and bolting it back on.. no cutting and welding required... pls correct me if i am wrong here... thanks..

maybe look for a decent KJ/KL/KW verada muffler at a wreckers? i know mine's quiet as, but when pushed sounds pretty good. no drone or anything at normal cruising (and being an auto i'd notice it too)
tho i dont know if its the same as an exec muffler in that the quietness is because its blocking the flow and hence actually gonna make ur car a lil slower

hm...
does the KJ/KL/KW have like a single tip instead of the normal dual tips??

that would require me going out and looking at my car! :P

actually on 2nd thought i think standard (Ei and Xi) veradas have the same muffler as execs, as power is the same, and the GTVi gets the vrx muffler.
sorry bout that, would be quiet but wouldnt get u the power

The LR2779 is pretty quiet at normal speeds and smallish throttle openings (very similar to the VRX), and has a nice burble at larger throttle openings.

Cheers,
Martin.

would it have a drowning sound when cruising on the highway like at 120km/h?

Apparently (http://www.autoweb.com.au/cms/A_660/title_New%20Car%20Test%20-%20Mitsubishi%20Magna%20VR-X/article.html) there's a drone at 2400rpm. I can't say I've really noticed though. Maybe I'm just deaf, but IMO any drone is washed out by road noise and the stereo

No, I don't get any droning at highway speeds.

There is an ALR44579 or something that is bolt-on. I am not sure about 2nd gens but it is bolt-on for the 3rd gens. The LR2779 has to be welded on, no if's or but's about it, just a bare muffler.
