Hi Guys,

I am actually a renault guy, but I am trying to help a friend who has a dud starter on his series 2 magna.

In looking at the starter location on the 4 cy motor, there is not a great deal of room to get at it. Is is possible to remove the starter without removing the fuel injection brace that sits behind it or do I have to remove that first?

I have to say that it is one of the most inconvieniently mounted starters that I have come accross!

Thanks for any help.

Dean

which magna, 1st gen tm-tn-tp , 2nd gen tr-ts, 3rd gen te-tf-th-tj-tl-tw.
If it's a 1st or second gen then u'll need to undo the 2 14mm bolts and disconect the soleiod (sp?) on the back of the starter. then just snake it through with your hands. Can be tight if you have big hands but is do'able.

What you described was for the V6. Just clarifying.

by now you may have already done the job

you have to remove the lower injector brace on the driverside
to get the starter out

hope you buy a magna soon
french cars have their difficult points (aussiefrogs.com )

thing is he might have a 2.4lt 4 cly 3rd gen. If not try it without removing anything ive never had too and ive done it plenty of times.

As I stated its a series/gen 2. I think smooth2 you must already have the lower brace removed, because, it is very much in the way. I just though there might be some tricky twist that could be done that I dont know about!

Seems like the brace is best removed from beneath the car - so looks like me taking some stands and torch round and getting underneath....He did have to park it down hill in a small shed with no lights!

Thanks for all your help.

Thanks Magna Buff,

I will get on to this today. I have been away since I posted this and just wanted to make sure I now what I need to do before I get to my friends place to do it.

I am in the middle of an engine swap with one of my own cars and when I first went around to check his car, I thought I would only need a few minutes to remove the old motor. I didn't have all my tools and had not anticipated the fuel injection bracket. The choices last time were to do it in the dark, or in the pouring rain!

I will whip it out today.

Thanks for everyones help.
