i never really noticed it until i started ridin in the back, and its really annoying..

is it just me, or other people finding the same thing?

My mates TH Advance wagon is lowered 70mm all round and it creaks and squeaks in the load compartment over bumps. I figured it was simply a charasteristic of the wagons in general as they age, similar to a car getting a few rattles here and there. If he sees this thread he might post more about it.

chassis flex creaking? or suspension?

How recently after lowering? may be the spring not sitting right.

seemed to be as soon as i lowered it, ive had the car jacked up and the springs removed and put back a few times since then.. still remains.

its definately a creaking, like some kinda flexing is happening

not a wear and tear noise or rattle

My KE sedan is the same, sorta a squeaking sound at random intervals.

I can reproduce the sound if I let the car roll for a few metres then stab the accelerator quickly, then the squeak sound comes, definitely from the rear of the vehicle.

Its riding on King Lows in the rear, so definitely interested to hear if anybody can shed some light on this.

yea mines a constant thing, around every corner or speed hump.

really annoying for anyone sittin in the back seat.

Have you thought about just going nuts with a can of WD40 under the car and seeing if that stops it

its not a scraping noise tho.. and the sound is only from the inside of the car.. cant hear it outside..

hm.

no other wagon owners had this?

its body flex, magnas are pretty bad, and the wagons are worse... raise it up get some decent suspension travel and it will go away...

turn the radio up!

Before we bought the wagon, our mechanic warned us there is a known problem with them. He test drove it for us and gave it the all clear. I find the wagon noisier than any sedan I've driven.*shrug*

I'm assuming you've checked the wood in the cargo bay is all in good order?

What is this "known problem" your mechanic speaks of?.....magnas have many "known" problems.....

generally speaking, you will find that all wagons will be noisier inside compared to thier sedan counterparts

Magna wagons had the creaking noise in the rear coming from the rear seat strikers, the improved ones were hard chromed, and were only replaced on customer complaint.
There were seperate part numbers for the improved strikers, if anyone cares I can find them!

cant say mine creaks. could be because i have no rear suspension travel though. is it when you go around corners? I got told that magna wagons have like an arm that sways the rear axel around corners and stuff so if its when you turn corners it maybe that?

BY JOVE HE'S RIGHT! Nice get MitsuMad....

Ive been putting up with this creaking noise for months in my TJ wagon - and was just doing some depserate thread mining to fix it. Found this post, took the car for a nice quiet run with the rear seat down - and whaddya know, creaking noise stopped.

I just had it lowered to King lows.. so dunno if thats putting extra torque on the backseat because of the magna "body flex" people seem to think exists?

Can anyone report if the new strikers work? Any part numbers?

[MitsuMad"] "difference is that the old strikers were black, and the new ones are hard chrome plated!

part numbers for the improved strikers are : MR924209 (near side)
MR924210 (off side)"

Thanks Mitsumad...found your later post. Gonna hit up Paceway Mitsi tomorrow...

Mine squeaks from the spare wheel mount, it's too close to the rear pillar so I have to put some cloth in there. Apart from that it's a goon so it's gunna make some strange noises.

They also creek from the rear cargo area floor.(wood).
I tried lubing and playing around with the screw tightness with the floor which helped a little.

Yeah thats my only problem, the cargo floor

Bloody oath they creek!
So much so that i would never buy another wagon again....its such a big open area, there seems to be alot of flex in it.

Yeah, they do flex a bit. I even notice the wagon makes different creaking noises when the seat is down...its like the seat is some kind of structural member and without the seat up the compartment flexes more.......

There's an easy fix to this 'flex' problem.

Lay down a 1" thick layer of newspaper over the whole rear cargo area, then cover with around 6lt of wood glue. Get yourself a potato masher, and mash away.

Leave car outside to dry, and bobs your uncle, a re-inforced floor

Ummmmm....Ive been thinking of a response to this for 5 mins. Ive got nothing. :)

Yeah they do flex a fair bit. This is usually the cause for the leaking side windows. The window glue cracks with the flexing causing water to leak onto the rear cargo floor.

Another issue with the wagons is sililar to second gens, the rear bushes are stretched when they are lowered, you can also try putting the car on ramps so you have access to the underside, loosen all bush bolts and then re tighten.

Similar to the front bush bolts

Hey, first post on the forum. I've got the same creak and have narrowed it down to the seat strikers, creak is there with seat up, but gone with seat down.

Now forgive my ignorance, which part is the striker? The black metal loop coming our from the body of the car or is it a part of the seat back?

Thanks in advance,

Grant.

Mine creaks like a cheap wooden bed in a *****house - and really I have noticed it since I brought it closer to mother nature - I will try the seat down to see if it quietens down.
Also what I have noticed as well on the front suspension lower contol arm the bushed are leaking fluid and a dull thud happens on bumps since I lowered it as well

i never thought that it might have been the rear seats. I just always assumed it was the suspension or body flexing.

i've sold the car, but this thread may be useful to other people now.

Gday waldog! Yes, the striker is the black metal loop....if you want a cheap temporary solution, just wrap some electrical tape round the top of the striker. Its working on mine at the moment.

Next question - ive ordered the replacement chrome strikers, but can anyone give tips on how to remove the trim to get to the striker bolts (TJ wagon)? The trim panel is big - goes all the way from the rear door to the tailgate.

Any doozys i need to look out for....?

I have this issue - I will try the tape and sew how it goes

Hi All.

I had the issue with the back seat also.

When it was up it would make a noise when going over bumps, it was the strickers. Solution...........

I got some clear flexible pvc tubing about 9mm diameter then sliced it long ways and slipped it over the stricker then no more.
easy quick and cheap without looking detrimental,

I have a similar noise happening with my sedan, its squeaks and creaks at lower speeds ever since I have had it lowered. Its a TJseries II AWD, Im thinking it might be the link pins needed some serious greasing up.

This thread is a godsend, i just lowered my TF sedan and the back creaks going over bumps and what not at slow speeds. Its sitting on King Lows at the back and its pi**ing me off!
