Hey Guys,
With my install (which is coming soon), I was wondering if anyone had ideas about ho to Sound deaden the rear end of the car. At the moment, my boot rattles majorly and the bumper vibrates a lil too. I am resolving the boot problem, by filling the holes with expanding foam, but what do I do about the rest of the rear end? How do I fix the bumper problem?

ok this is my opinion, unless its gonna be a show car or something is there really any point? i mean, as long as it still sounds good in the car does it matter? its not like u listen to it most of the time outta the car is it?

but if need be, there is that sound deading stuff that some car audio places sell in sheets that seems to be rediculasly expensive.

a mate of mine found that most of his rattling came from the number plate and the ends of the bumper, so he just fastened them tighter and now its much better.

The reason I ask, and this is a funny story.
I had the cops come to my work asking to inspect my car, they sed there was a report on. I found out later that a lady heard my boot shaking and thort I was transporting someone in the boot. So to eliminate this embarrassment again, I want to sound deaden it.

i tell you what i did.
i got that silver stick on sound deadening sheet and put it all over the underneath of the boot. Took the light out of the spoiler and wrapped the inside wiring with the same stuff, and put a little i had extra behind the numberplate. followed buy getting the underside of the boot lid carpeted.
The boot is a lot heavier, and it did help out a fair bit.

Sound deadening the car not only makes it sound better from outside, but also inside too. Energy wasted shaking the shit out of panels is better spent making more musical noise.

As for the query; for SD'ing the boot/lid area you may find if you're on a low budget that the adhesive-backed sheets from Jaycar would be good for your needs. You probably don't need to go for Dynamat or any of the more expensive sheets (even though they are very good and worth their money). You can also go for the bitumen-based liquid solutions from Supercheap that can be painted onto irregular shaped surfaces.

i wouldnt get stuff from jaycar
for the small amount of deadening you get its pretty expensive

go to an actual car audio place and ask them how much for the sound deadening.

theres not much difference between brands although brown bread is considered fairly good but i find it a little on the thin side and double layering is required.

ok, one of my mates found this little trick out for your number plate (i hope he dosent read this cuz it's his 'secret' trick) get a piece of carpet and put it behind the plate ... not that hard ... just screw the plate back in position and there is no rattling.

until the carpet gets wet and rots and stinks like crap. although yeh its no real secret have tried the same thing with a thin peice of ruber sheeting..... which wont rot.

for the number plate i used double sided tape the thick ones, for the boot lid i used space invaders which worked beautifully for $15, now i have to do the parcel shelf and the side panels and my bonnet which vibrates a little bit, good luck

inside the boot lid, get the trim off the XI verada of your model range. You can also glass the inside of this as well.
