Lately i've noticed that when i wanna accelerate quickly and change from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd the revs sort of 'fade' down instead of making the wheels spin or chirp (and yeah my foot is completly off the clutch pedal). and the fritchon point is right near the top.

How much should a new clutch cost and are there any different types of clutch i should think about getting?

is the clutch slipping or engine reving and going nowhere

if it comes to being the clutch, dont expect much change from $1000 for a standard clutch.

mine just cost me $930 for clutch, rear main seal, and clutch fluid, supply and fit. every other quote i got was around $1200 and didnt include the fluid or seal. This was for a TE V6.. the 3.5 is about $50 more my mechanic said.

Yeah thats what i meant by the revs fading down, its slipping heaps compared to when i got the car. Say i rev 1st up to 6k revs then smash it into 2nd, the car doesnt have a surge of power, instead the clutch slips till the tacho reads 4.5k revs where they should be going at that speed - it used to make the wheels spin till they grip.

Thats pretty expensive. do you think its a job that i could do if i got the parts myself?

ive heard that the 3rd gen's are pretty tedious when it comes to replacing the clutch, especially when removing the thrust bearing and whatnot. the clutch alone will cost you about $600

Jump on the exedy aus website, and look at the instructions or FAQ page, cant remember which one. Its got a pictorial guide to changing the clutch on a late model magna cos a lot of mechanics used to have troubles with them. Apparently the thrust bearing is odd?

when i was looking around for a 3.5 clutch, prices i got for a stock clutch alone was between $900-$1100

plus roughly $400 to install

i ended up gettin a heavy duty clutch for $650, mainly because it was cheaper and would last longer

dont go replacing the clutch until it definately starts slipping
ie. when u accelerate and the revs go up, but the car goes nowhere
