My 2003 TL battery is dead.
I am looking for a cheap as possible replacement.
What is a good price?
Where should I go to get one?
What specific battery do you recommend?
Advice appreciated. Thanks

a cheap battery wont do your car much good unless you are planning to sell it
approx $ 110 up is cheap
a heavy duty with a good cranking rate and long warrenty
some members buy marine batteries that last and are proving reliable
larger the better that still fits
try to buy from a battery supply place not super cheap breakdown service or mitsubishi
recheck alternator for charge rate

I'll be moving overseas at the start of 2009, so will be selling the car then.
The battery needs to last me until then.

Bosch Silver From Super cheap Comes with 2 year warrenty Think your looking at $130-$140ish.
Or else the Gold one with 3 year warrenty Is like $150ish..
Cheap one with 1 year warrenty is like $120ish.
Places that sell batterys;
Supercheap
Repco
Autobarn
Bursons

Come to think of it I havent had to replace my battery for a very long time, over 2.5 years now.
Anyway get one of those, available at most tyre places and some retailers.
Do the online test, for which one suits you best.

A Calcium battery is good for long life and no maintenance.
Marine batteries are only good for deep cycle applications. They resist sulphation better than other styles by having the plates higher and slightly different chemistry.
Size for size, they are not as high capacity as standard batteries.
Unless you run them almost dead flat on a regular basis - they aren't worth the extra money.

got a new battery about 1 1/2mths ago from Repco
got an Exide Premium one, 2year warrantly with 550 CCA..
110 CCA more than the standard batteries..
don't notice any difference, but the 2 year warranty got me in the door..

Thanks for all the advice.
I ended up going the easy option and got NRMA to come out and put one in for me - it was only $129 with a 2 year warranty.

I got a $115 marine battery for mine, and sure it might not be as large as some other standard batteries, but at 550CCA and 150RC, it does the job fine. Hasn't caused me a single problem, and they're built more robust than standard batteries. The vibration resistance of those batteries is quite important for my car I think, as it seems to vibrate quite significantly, and the first battery it had failed due to a plate coming loose and falling over, shorting 2 of the cells out...
