Hi All,

I have noticed I have a real tappety (top engine) noise on start up in the cold. It only seems to happen about two in ten starts in the cold and lasts around 30 seconds. My old TL didn't do it however dealer reckons about two out of ten Magnas do it. Any one else noticed it?

It doesn't happen in warmer starts ie 4 degrees upwards.

TW VRX AWD.

Might be worth doin an oil and filter change to something a bit better suited to cold weather.:)

alternator pully!
my car done it, shoulds like Sh*t?
especially when u put it in drive, then goes away after like 20-30 sec.
all u gotta do is tighten the pulley (alternator and power stearing)
the other issue is the heat sheild rattle.
although i would put my money on just tightening the pulleys

i hear ya man... same problem..........in the country.. frosty mornings....

does the tappet sound sort of vairy depending on the revs or the way its idoling.. MINE DOES....then it goes away after a while...unless i just have a trippin ear..

i just give it a decent rev and it stops... but yeah.. it doesnt sound healthy.
and i want it gone.. it makes the car sound like a bomb....

Mine is starting to tap tap tap, but I always warm the car up for 5 to 10 minutes before I start driving for the day and she has been fine.

The valve in the lash adjuster gets blocked with ginge, you can try flushes but to be honest you are better off replacing the lash adjusters from the onset as they will only get worse
