hhmmmm definately.
Out of curiousity is the 90mm intake the factory intake or is it a mod for the galant?
If its original i would hardly doubt a mitsubishi engineer would notice the difference....especially if it has mitsubishi labels and logos over it
The 90mm intake is a Galant GTS (3.8) intake. Our 380 has the 2.4 Galant intake unfortunately... The actual intake has no identifiable markings or part numbers on it nor does the standard one. I doubt if they even notice it when you send the car in for servicing.

Further to what Type 40 said, you will see when you start filing out your airbox to accomodate the larger intake, the hole into the air box has a raised lip around it which you file up to.....this shows the airbox was designed for a 90mm intake, Mitsubishi have made the hole smaller to allow the 60mm intake to fit. In addition to this, the 2 screw holes on the bigger intake which attach it to the car line up perfectly with the holes from the smaller one.
In affect, rather than us guys modifying the car by fitting a larger intake, we are reverting it back to how it was originally designed before Mitsubishi modified it to meet the Euro 3 emmission regs.

I think the smaller intake was to meet ADRs for drive by noise only.

Got it in this morning, Pushed it in with solid 'click' at the end to lock it in. Like it was meant to be there in the first place.
Review to follow.

Sorry, my mistake.
Shoot, isnt it a good feeliing when you feel the bigger intake lock into place after you've finished filing. Dont know about you but I virtually sprinted back to the car to fit it so I could take it for a spin to try it out.....so come on, what do you think?

After just a quick spin to the Supermarket to get some formula, in 60 zone, I just rested my foot on pedal and away she went, sure doesn't seem asthmatic any more. It gives you feeling that you really did something right, after that, 50 bucks for that difference, under 200 for the muffler, the K&N doesn't seem like good value on a dollar per performance scale:snooty:
I will have to wait for the ECU to figure out whats gone on, and get back to normallol

Good to hear your first impressions are positive!!

Mmmm fairly certain you are correct there, Euro3 regs only pertain to exhaust emissions, hence the amount of catalytic converters on the 380.

Seadevil....you just use the shipping service Rey Reece Mitsubishi (the mob you are buying from) use. The part cost me US $13 plus $29 for delivery to my door which equated to AUS$47 all up. Not sure what you mean about options/prices? I guess the only option is whether you want to also purchase the front half of a new air box to save you filing out the plastic hole in your one (takes about an hour). I didnt get a new airbox but I believe Knotched did at a cost of about an extra $70 ish.

The first ' whats gone on' is the new intake. Get back normal is letting the ECU (or the computer thingy) adjust, and a bit of a dig about MMAL not fitting the 90mm in the firdt place.

I just left a note on the order to get it me promptly, without costing too much. They sent it via US postal Service.
Hey Guys,
Has anyone looked into warranty implications?
Or are you just hoping the service guys wont notice?

The intake shouldn't hurt the warranty as it is a standard item on the Galant (in America) and used on 380s in New Zealand.
And I doubt the service technicians would notice it.

I tried to order one through my dealer's service centre who had no probs with fitting it at all. Only trouble was that Mitsu HO cancelled the order because it wasn't a "compatible part for the region".
There'll be no warranty issues.

Totally impressed by that intake, Best $48.00 I've ever spent ( besides the $28.00 Tower strut bracelol ), this is a very impressive and totally stock looking mod, and, yes you can hear it slurping more air in, gettin better every drive so far.

Ok guys, got my 70mm throttle body & 90mm intake today. 20 mins later they were both on. First drive in traffic found a noticable increase mainly mid to high revs. Will evaluate it more over the coming days.
Next step is a phonecall tomorrow about a computer!

Just a question, should you edit your first post in this thread describing all the particulars of ordering the intake, part number, reyreece and postage etc. I wanted to do it, but I dont want any kudos.

Thats a great idea Shoot!! As this thread is now 27 pages, it can be difficult finding the relevant info. I know I had to PM Type 40 (and I think Knotched) on how to order and others have PM'd me re the same. Maybe even start a new thread simply titled 'How to order a 90mm intake'....

I'm really looking forward to seeing your hp figures from the dyno. That thing must be pumping out some real power now...:D
Please keep us updated re the computer (especially me re costs via PM, if you don't mind) because there is no clear direction to go in with these interceptors.
The 70mm throttle body - you just ordered and received a RPW modified one? I thought it had to be exchange?

I have booked it into CNJ next Wednesday morning to get the crank trigger mapped so they can write the software for it, so hopefully a couple of weeks after that I may have the computer in & cranked for 98 octane!
Yep the throttle body is a RPW exchange, cost me $350 which I will get back when they receive mine. I spoke to David over there & he asked if I got a CEL up which I didn't (that had me worried), anyway reset the computer like he told me & it's running fine.
PS - The CEL hasn't come back up like it did after about 300km of driving with the extractors on. I think after every mod it might pay to reset the computer so it can adjust.

Yeah they will wait to post it before they charge you the postage component of the bill. They did that with me.
