God damn flat spot is killin' me off the lights.
It happens between 1200 to 3200 rpm.
The engine & tranny just rev like nuts but the car moves like its only doing 1000 rpm.
I'm going to check the fuel system tomorrow and see if i can find whats wrong.
My car has had a fair bit of new stuff put on lately (spark plugs-leads, dizzy cap & rotor, oil change, engine mounts, timing chain, tranny service, oiled air filter) so i'm hoping its just a grubby fuel filter or something simple like that. I'll let yall know how it goes.

purchase a 3rd gen magna and u wont this problem :D
Dude, i've got EXACTLY the same thing in my TR 2.6 MAnual.
I take off full bore, and then the revs keep counting, but the car slows down for a bit as if there is no power, and then starts to build up again at around 2500 :?
Just went for a cruise, and my flatty is not EXACTLY like yours, it only lasts for about 500 rpm, but its as though the car stops accelling for a bit, and then starts up again a second or two later, at 2500 :?:
I was thinking it might be an easy fix by getting airfilter/exhaust done, but funds as of yet have not allowed me to do anything of the sort.
This might sound like a stupid thing to ask, but do you use the aircon? Cos ive found that with AC cranking it murders any power that the engine might try to put to the wheels.
If u find any solution I, and im sure a heap of other users will be interested. :D

Ive found the same in the TS, auto. Sometimes there is a big flat spot between say 2000 - 3000rpm, soon as 3k hits, bang power, very weird, almost like a turbo spooling :). Apparently i need to change my rear 3 spark plugs and it should go away but i doubt it hehe. Im going to change my fuel filter and get a tune and see if i can fix it :)

I'd understand it to be normal for a 2.6 engine. I know definitely that there is a flat spot around 1500pm until you get to 2500rpm then the car actually starts to go. Both of my engines i've had did the same thing.
I've got a auto though, but I thought maybe it wasn't such a bigger problem for those with manuals? At least you can clutch dump it at 2000rpm.
Dumping clutch only allows for wheelspin, ie not much faster as you just get axel tramp etc :?
Hell i get wheelspin with standard takeoffs a lot of the time, and on new 215's 8)

Sorry i haven't been able 2 get on for a few days. Damn comp s**t its self.
Got new fuel pump & filter done.
Problem still persists, although it is not as bad now its still there and it s**ts me to tears.
Mechanic thinks it could possibly be a tranny problem but he said its not very likely.
i was gonna say if its carby setup, ya idle/mixture screw settings might be out... cos that effects things up to around 1500rpm...

So it sounds like it's stumbling on accelleration, at least thats the problem that sounds the closest in the haynes manual:
Engine Stumbles on Acceleration
1. Spark plugs fouled
2. Problem with carburettor or fuel injection system
3. Fuel filter clogged
4. Incorrect ignition timing
5. Inlet manifold leak
6. EGR system malfunction
Let me know what one you think it might be and I'll scan that part of the manual

When you say the engine revs but the car doesn't accelerate, that sounds like a transmission problem. If it was a manual, I may suggest a slipping clutch that warms up and grabs at higher revs (probably unlikely, they usually let go and don't hang on much after that).
but, I could add more useless stuff  , and say buy a gen 1.5 (Galant) and you won't have the same problems..

yeh my 2.6 efi auto TR has exactly the same flat spot. i just thought its a flat spot that all these models have since many people i know have same problem with same engine. thats why i asked if the aftermarket fuel pressure regulator would help eliminate the flat spot.
