ever since ive had my car i have been driving even the most unoticeable bumps causing an absolute mind numbing rattle in my suspension..causing shuddering in my steering which has now lead to my HORN being badly faulty(real unsafe)....and also being told by every new passenger in my car "dude your shocks are ****ed"

ive had enough and i want a smooth ride..... im not sure if its due to bumpy country roads or just terrible stock shocks interfering with the King springs

it does have an effect on the handleing too

suggest me some shocks people...improvement ideas..... or is this something that is to my fault....
Eg. loose fix on the suspension...

help please....

thanks

This is probably gonna sound pretty obvious, but since you asked...

If your car runs so low that it is on or near the bump stops all the time, then your shocks unfortunately don't get much of a chance to 'absorb shocks' when a bump pushes the wheel upwards. Shockers designed for standard height springs are valved in such a way that they really need some shock travel (ie an inch or 2) to be able to do the absorbing.

When you fit lowered springs, the reduced suspension travel makes the strut more prone to bottoming out on the bump stop rubber (assuming Ashneel didn't have his way with it) before much/any of the sudden wheel movement has been slowed/absorbed by the shock absorber.

I installed KYB Excel-G into our lowered TJ Sports AWD a week ago - it rides great for the height (King Low/Super Low combo) - see here for pics: http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50872

Hope that helps

thanks for the tips.. .so obviously i need new shockers.... as long as the problem can be fixed....

it also feels like the wheels drop off the bottom of the car when i hit small bumps.. its more like an over extending sound...... BANG BANG.. knock. knock. lol

cheers

One thing to check as well - make sure that the front bar is tight - I thought I had a crook shocker at the front, took it into a suspension place and they found the front swaybar was loose, and a few other things..

BUT they put the car onto a rebound tester - and had a listen - turns out it was the front bar loose! Tightened up the mounting bolts and no more noise. NFI how it got loose though...

Hey dude, yea like everyone is saying

unfortunately when u lower a car as low as yours is lowered. the travel for the shocks is reduced and also the shocks wear out faster and you end up with a stiff ride like yours. And u end up hitting the bump stops on the shocks.

your car has been stiff like that for a long time, it is especially noticable on the front.

If you want a smoother ride, replacing the shocks with ones that are designed for lowered springs, which could end up costing u about $600 or so

or find a set of stock springs and shocks and return to stock height.

But yea, what u have right now is normal for a car that low.

As for the shuddering in your steering wheel, is this shuddering when u drive normally on a flat road?

and the horn, open up the steering wheel and try and find out whats wrong with it maybe.

Yeah well ashneel threw in the stock springs but i couldnt bare to put those on.. it would look really off.....

but new shocks for sound like a good idea.....is there a certain type for King springs...

also.....the shudder in the steering wheel isnt like a side to side shudder (wobbles)
its more like the steering collum is loose.. and when i hit the smallest bumps the steering wheel gets a lovely shock.... and continues a really unhealthy sounding rattle/knocking

yeah the horn is getting pretty unsafe... iv had some 1 not see and pull out infront of me, my horn didnt work... which lead me no choise but to swerve into oncoming traffic lol....
