Hi Guys,

Been lurking on this site for ages and found it reallly informative when I need to do work on the old 85 Magna.

Trying to change the fuel sender/reader which i knows a common issue with the fuel gauge not working, and this is usually the way to fix it, as I've learn't from here.

Even got one of those Gregory car manuals for the magna from a mate at work. Talks about the fuel pump, but doesn't have anything about the fuel sender/reader in it.

Anyway to cut a long story short, I've located it, but can't for the life of me figure out how to remove it. No discernable bolts or screws, and it appears you need to twist the whole thing anti clock wise, but the only thing to grip is a fuel pipe...and if that snaps...well I’ll be replacing it so no biggy, but would rather avoid it.

Any ideas guys?

You'll have to ask Bill to confirm on the leaded cars, but the unleaded cars, it' s three philips head screws.

I think I might need to pop it on a lift to get a proper look. Had it up on some ramps and found it a pain in the neck (literally :P ) looking at it....could do with a clean so if any screws may be hidden by grit. I'll attempt it again on the weekend anyway. :)

On the 1985 models, use a suitable drift to turn the sender unit retaining plate to the left until the notch in the plate is aligned with the retaining lugs, then remove the unit.... from the TM manual, hope it helps :)

fuel has to be below the sender well below half full first

and manovering
because of the floatand bent arms and electrical sender

you need two hands to remove it carefully from the hole in the tank

below is an example only

Thanks for that, already have the part, just trying to figure out how to remove it.

Granted I spent most of the weekend on it doing some bodywork and prepping some areas for a respray. Just bringing it back to it's former glory :D
