Gooday, Whats your opinion, ---- Does a TL require a cooler for long distance towing with a 1300kw Caravan? IT appears the Magna has an excellent Auto , but I would like advice from people who have Towed over the distances.

Hey there.
Definately worth putting on the cooler. Will do it fine without the cooler but ifd it is going to be a regular thing then would get one fitted.

As for towing, the Magna's do it well. No real problems you have to watch out for. I'm guessing your caravan will have electric brakes which will take the strain off the underpowered car brakes.
Is the Tl a 4 speed or 5 speed auto?
They are both fine. I do most of my towing with my KH 4 speeder which does it fine but a 5 speed would do iut so much easier because of the shorter gears especially 1st.

Tow a 1300Kg boat with a KE verada and now a GTVi. Most trips involve a climb back up the Toowoomba range.

Once a tear 2600Km return to Airlie Beach.

No tranny cooler and No probs.

Other than for Towing, is there any benefits to having a Auto Tranny Cooler?
I used to have one on my first car (Holden HQ) but that was old school.

Gooday Guys, TL is 4 speed auto, Van has all the required gear, We are very experienced in towing 23ft boats and caravans and have a Nissan Patrol 4.2 td which has done that for us over the Years, however, its our first Magna and we use it for the light van. It does the job real well and it is a Great Car, but I thought I would "ask the Question" of the seasoned Magna Owners.
Thanks and Cheers

i recommend the PWR trans cooler. we,ve put quite a few of these on at work and the customers have been very happy with them. they are also piss easy to install which helps no end.

Keeps the Transmission fluid temperature down therefore increasing the tranny's life span, no performance gains are made.

I'd also recommend a visit to www.vpw.com.au. I bought my trans filter + cooler kits from there, and  .
