Hey peeps just noticed for the last few weeks there's this weird "heeeeeeeee" noise which goes away when the car is at idle at the lights but starts happening again once i start driving. The noise seems to disappear after around 60km/h. Sounds like an old supercharger on idle. Once again, the noise sounds like this "heeeeeeeeeeeeee" constantly, no in betweens or anything just the same note. It doesn't get any higher pitched or change note when I drive.
I'm a bit worried cos I want to take the car for a long drive this weekend

I tried searching other threads but couldn't get a definite answer. What do you reckon guys?

Wheel bearing maybe?
Does it sound like a bird? My TR did that, was the bearing.

Have you got an aftermarket fuel pump?

The aftermarket fuel pump I had in my Verada used to make a high pitched whining noise coming from around the rear and used to be very loud inside the car aswell.

I'm probably 100% worng lol

Haha thanks for your quick responses. Yep it sounds like a bird!!! Like eeeeeeeeeeeeee not very very high pitched but just a constant whining noise.

Do you reckon the car will last a 2000km drive if it's the wheel bearing stuffed? Don't want my wheel to fall off or something crazy like that on the pacific highway

is it coming from the front of the car? if its from the rear the malfunctioning handbrakes sounds alot like that noise ( when i read it out anyway:nuts: ) try pulling up your lever when your driving see if it stops, then you know it is that.

Yeah? Could be the timing belt you reckon?
I'll get it checked up but for now, just want to know what i might be up for

could be a lot of things - with out actually hearing the noise its too hard to tell for certain, may even be caused by something being wrong with your super charger

Nope supercharger was sold and a dohc was bought a few weeks ago. Plus the whine from the supercharger was more high pitched.

Hopefully it's not the timing belt oh gawd

In the swift at work there was a noise just like that, I think it was something to do with the ABS/power steering.

You said when in Park it stops.... Is your car an Auto???

Perhaps something to do with the bands in the Tranny?

Could be any of these:

- Wheel bearing
- Brakes
- Timing belt pulleys
- Torque converter (if auto)
- Vacuum hose with small leak making whistle

I don't know what else would make a noise like that while moving only. Maybe try recording the sound so we can hear it?

I think it might be the timing belt.
Mine had a similar noise when I bought the car and it was due for the 110k service so I replaced the timing belt during that service and the noise went away.
... then it came back a week or two later.

I didn't replace any pulleys or other belts so I treat it as normal now.

Yeah? Thank god I bought the new engine. Nope it's not the tranny belts cos before when the tranny was playing up it was making a whining noise but it was way louder and more deadly.

Well I hope it holds it can hang in there for a while till i get the extractors made for the new engine
