Ahem.... lol

As above..

Errrr, my gf did it... she hopless with cars but is very mechanically minded and knows how to pull rotors and pads off and replace them... but she didnt know which way the slots face on the hub....

Ok ok so it was me SO WHAT!

After finishing the replacement i drove the car from my mates place and found the brakes were no where near as good as stock...

I get on the net and look at photos of slotted rotors on fellow members on here and find that they face the opposite way to mine....

I have the outside of the slot going first, not the inside...

IS there any problem? Will i have to change them around?

The slot direction won't really affect the braking performance for the car, but will not work as effectively in de-glazing the pads and dispersing water on rainy days. But in the dry it shouldn't make a noticeable difference.

Did you get the rotors machined before fitting the new pads? Also could just be the Pads, maybe they arn't as good as the old ones, if they arn't the same?!!!

The pads are used. Not new. But the ones that came off were heaps more worn than the ones i got with the rotors. Also they are not the same. The ones that come off the car were standard. The pads i got with the slotted rotors are supposed to be ultimates i think.

I didnt machine the rotors, there was hardly any lip on them at all. The ones that come off my car had more of a lip than the slotted ones.

Maybe give them a couple days, the slots should bed the pads in quicker. All this after you fix the slot direction. :D

Uh oh, give this an hour before people start flaming..

YOU IDIOT, yay i'm first.. No really, Phonic has a point, theoretically anyway. They shouldn't "really" effect dry performance apart from half the point is they disperse the gas, dust and heat created in the braking process, so instead of the rotors throwing it all outwards with inertia it's pushing it back into the middle of the pad so it would be effecting it, how could it not? Variables depending of course.

I say, swap 'em. Also, I had RDA slotted rotors with Bendix Ultimate and it chewed them out in just over 12 months and 20,000k's (the warranty is 12 months and/or 20,000k's) so if i was you i'd bin those pads and get some LUCAS or GCT bendix pads, or maybe EBC if they're made for your caliper. Sucks to spend $400 on "decent" braking gear and then for it to only last 12 months, plus like other sorry-sacks have said, most of us don't "need" slotted rotors, decent pads, straight rotors and decent fluid is all we need, unless you hit the track or beat your brakes with a dirty great big stick (or you use your magna when your Mack truck breaks down).

Why am i an idiot? There were no visible markings on the rotors to tell me which side they go on. So unless you fit brakes for a living or have fitted slotted rotors before how would you know? So GGF!

Thanks for the advice but the flaming was very unnecessary.

I will get some prices for another set of pads too.

I bet they work great when you're reversing :bowrofl:

funnily enough i tested that! lol

only at low speeds, ~10kph i didnt feel any difference.

Whats even more idiotic is paying $90 or so for something that the seller got for free :bowrofl: :bowrofl: :bowrofl:

Not getting to this "blaming game" - u've heard enuff of that by now.
Generally: pads and disks mate (noo, get your mind off the gutter!) so if u change either, some bedding time (km's) is required.
European cars have very soft rotors and may last only some 50G km even with soft pads. Hence the braking power and functions are good.
So, if the BDA rotors are softer than std then of course u would need to use softer pads to avoid disk wear. Soft against soft give better and controllable friction anyway.

Now, back to the issue of the direction of those....... :D

go for a softer pad like lucas. wont chew into your rotors as much as bendix and will give you better pedal feel too.

And how is that idiotic? I could go steal something worth $200 and sell it for $100 and make a profit, does that make the buyer idiotic if he/she didnt know it was stolen?

If you dont have anything constructive to say then dont say anything. I'm sure the admins will agree.

Like this you mean?:

HAHA Gold

I would imagine that much power in a magna FWD would resolve in someone torque steering into a wall.

What do you call drinking beer?

Weight lifting or beer lifting? The weight gets lighter too the longer you go into the session, so it must make you stronger lol

out of the gutter talk :belt: :nutkick: :bash:

Bump Bump Bumpidy Bump Bump Boo

Man, all that construction must make you tired.

And yes, I have nothing better to do, I can find more if required.

Well i suggest you find something better to do then.

I suggest you get the rotors lightly skimmed before fitting the softer pads (I told you about this in the PMs lol) for best performance and pad/rotor life.

Second hand rotors? Are you sure that's a good idea?

Second hand rotors? Are you sure that's a good idea?

Depends on the condition of the rotors.
