G'day everyone, I bring to you a hopefully simple problem.

I'm replaceing the globes behind my instrument cluster with Green ones. I'm going to get a cool Green & Black theme going on in my interior. Theres a guide here

http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27219&highlight=types+LEDs

On how to do it, but the part that stumps me is simply getting the instrument Cluster out...

I have a 99 TH series, and it has the Two Philips screws in the top. Undid those, and as
the guide says, i should be able to pull the surround off... But thats just it. The thing will slide out at the Top, but its obviously attatched at the bottom to something... I'll see if i can find a pic for it.

On the left corner i've got three computer buttons and on the right corner the dimmer switch. The surround will not come loose at all in these corners. To unplug them, i've got to get the surround off... to Get the surround off, i've got to get to whats behind them... vicious cycle. Has anybody done this on their Magna??? (I'll find a pic)

Yeah, its got clips down the bottom on each side, just pull the top out a little and then grab it at the bottom corners and firmly pull it towrds you.

The surround will not pull off at the points i've indicated... Well it might if i yank it as hard as i can.... but then it might break

from memory its just on clips, you just have to get the guts to yank it off. wait until some1 else posts to confirm tho cause i cant be 100% on it an i dont wanna be responsible for u wrecking your car.

i do know that once its unhooked, from behind you can just pull the wiring slots out of the buttons and dimmer.

yeah, i was a little nervous when i did it the other day to! I had to get to the RPM signal for my RSM and i sure was freaking out about breaking something!! but once you done it, you know how much pressure to undo the clips.

Be sure to post up some pics when you get it all done hey!

so reading through those threads, I'm assuming that no one has changed the instrument cluster lighting in a post TJ Series II dash?

I was hoping to change the lighting a bit to match the new headunit, but if the LEDs are sealed inside the cluster (and the climate control unit too, I suppose), then I won't be able to.

cheers,

I just bought a used one from magnatised (TJII), I'm going to try and solder in some surface mount LED's and test it out. I'm short of time though, so it may be a while. I'll send some pics if you like. Its already apart

that'd be sweet. so you're going to disconnect the existing LED's and replace them, right? might be a bit more work than I'm willing to do (especially on my only cluster).

so if its a TJ series 1, what sort of globes are they? are they the same as the parker / rear numberplate globes or different entirely? just asking because i might have a crack at doing it myself tonight

Yep, but I didn't pay much for it, so if I **** it up, thats OK. Main problem is getting the needles off, put on, then recalibrated. That cost money, I've made this mistake before. I'll make sure to take lots of pics

Sucess :D

... It's been suggested that i make the needles clear. I would do this by using some Nail polish remover on a cotton swab, however when i looked closely at the needles, They are orange on top, clear in the middle, and have another orange layer at the back. Therefore there wasn't much i could do to make them clear.

Anyway this little makeover cost me 2.60. Neat.

Next i want to do the same with all the stuff behind the center console. However my console is completely buggered and i don't want to pull it out until i have a replacement. I've called almost every wrecker this side of the city. I don't suppose anyone has seen a TH with a center console in a wreckers yard anywhere??

I don't know about the TJ series, but the four major globes i put sleeves on my TH were 8.5 mm
