hey all,
this is going to sound stupid and typical ricer. haha. just wondering, has anyone fitted one of those autobarn bonnet scoops to their bonnet and colour coded? i'm wanting to put a simple, small scoop on the bonnet when I get my respray (which isnt TOO far off) and I was wondering if anyone had any idea of what this would look like.
stupid or cool?
Thanks,
-Ian

if those are the stick on ones ur talking about, schmick has them on his bonnet, and in my opinion they look good, but if u dont like ricey cars then, no, but it just so happens i do. lol

Matey im not sure about the one you mean but if you go to the SSV website they have a few along with pics.
If you check out the blue TJ thats mine & it has the small WRX style on it.
It is not too overdone & easy to cut a hole in the bonnet if you want it to be of actual real use.

a little one like that would look good, as long as it was done properly.
cut a hole in the hood and flush mount it, not just stuck on top :D there shouldn't be a visible line where the scoop meets up.

If I was to do it, I'd be cutting a hole in the hood and fibreglassing it smooth. no issue there, I'm just wondering what everyone thinks about them. Also, will it keep the temperatures in the engine bay slightly lower? or will it make no difference at all?

I dont think anyone would know
Unless you ran a flat long pipe from the scoop to the filter which is possible and not to much trouble,
i reckon they look crappy on the 2nd gens, the bonnet it too big, Try and get your hands on an actuall WRX scoop which would fill it out more

that particular one is 6cm high, 27cm deep and 63cm wide (across). I don't know it that'llbe too big or not  I don't think so. very tempted!

considerin the size of the 2nd gen bonnet i dont think it would b to big, i reckon a squarish type scoop where the air filter is would look pretty nice.
Jeez - thought more people would say it will look crap. Can't help bad taste I suppose.
So let me be the first - it would look crap.

thanks for your honesty guys. :) But i think a properly done scoop. properly fibreglassed in o that it looks stock would suit, what with it being only a small one.
Everyone to their own I guess

And if you dont do this becuase you said you will we get to beat your ass:)
but like i said get something longer, the magna has a big bonnet and with such a small ricey scoop it will look, as TL-R said, shizenhouzen

BEHR and EZBoy did it on their TJ's... Looked alright on those because of the nice lines of the bonnet.
Bonnet scoop for a TR would look ****house.

naa i dude on here did it with a white te-th model...not the beak nose TJ...
hmmm cant memba his name for the life of me, it wasnt everyones cup of tea, but it matched his bodykit nicely.
but yea i sorta agree, the TR bonnet is like a big open plane, if u wer to get one i think an evo style woudl look best, with a lip at the fron and vent behing....the scoop will look to small and out of place i think...
but hey it isnt my car! good luck with it though mate.

Ah yeah the dude with the evo vents, they looked pretty mint, cant remember his name either.
I don't think an evo vent would look good on it... too angular, plus with a four cylinder all they are really doing is allowing rainwater to fall onto the headers, no real cooling benefits I would imagine :(

forget the autobharn scoops - get a carbon fiber scoop or even a carbon fiber vent from topstage.

Okay all, have been looking around, and have found a scoop that MAY suit the 2nd gen bonnet.
tis this one. What does everyone think?

You realise whatever rice you cook and glass onto your bonnet is going to look like crap unless the rest of your car matches it, right? You have a virtually stock exec magna, which with the inclusion of said rice cooker on the hood, will be the laughing stock of anyone with a pair of eyeballs. Sorry dude, facts of life.
Rice the rest of your car, then we'll talk ;)

will cover as long as you disclose them and they are fitted so that they dont weaken the structure on the bonnet skeleton

will cover as long as you disclose them and they are fitted so that they dont weaken the structure on the bonnet skeleton
The fitting of a rearward opening bonnet scoop is permitted without specific approval or inspection providing that the following criteria can be met.
a. Bonnet scoops manufactured from a plastic or fibreglass material may be fitted, providing that the hole in the original bonnet does not substantially reduce the strength or impact resistance of the bonnet and no rigid component, such as an air cleaner or carburettor protrudes beyond the original bonnet profile.
b. Holes may be cut in the bonnet and the protrusion of an air cleaner or carburettor above the bonnet line but below the bonnet scoop providing that the bonnet scoop or raised bonnet section is manufactured from equivalent gauge mild steel compared with the original bonnet.
c. If any bonnet reinforcing braces are cut or modified the design of the modified bonnet must be of equal strength to the original bonnet and any sharp edges created must be suitably treated.
d. All edges and corners shall have a radius of not less than 5 millimetres and of general design and construction so as to reduce to a minimum the risk of bodily injury to any person.
e. In addition, any bonnet scoop is unacceptable if it restricts the field of view of the driver under normal operating conditions. The field of view requirements are determined as follows:
• With the drivers seat in the rearmost position, it shall be possible to see, unobstructed for the full width of the vehicle, a line drawn on the roadway 11 metres ahead of the "driver's eye position" when looking over the bonnet scoop. For the purpose of this requirement the "driver's eye position" shall lie at the bottom of the of the 95th percentile eye ellipse (reference ADR 15/01 clause 15.1.5.1).
• Alternatively the "driver's eye position" can be taken as a point 750 millimetres above and 270 millimetres forward of the junction of the seat cushion and seat squab with the seat in the lowest and rearmost position.
The fitting of forward opening bonnet scoops, which have the potential to increase injuries to pedestrians in collisions, for example forward opening "letter box" style, are not acceptable.

Pheeeww! The authority on bonnet scoops. Nice work. Forward facing scoops are not allowed. I presume something like a WRX your talking about. It's ok for them to come with a car new but not be added to a different type of vehicle? The end result is the same for the pedestrian if they are hit! Doesn't matter what car it's on. Little bit hypocritical if you ask me. But the government knows best!

check this members ride. I think the vents/bulge were cut out of a 71-72 xb ford, but not 100% sure.

Dude look into vents more practical then just looks. Reverse them towards the front to extract hot air, or face em fwd 3/4 way towards windscreen to induct fresh air, or go the GT style scoop. Had mine for pheeewww years now they are looking into running these type x2 on the new Ralli-Art 380!!
Check out my User profile Pic (not Avatar) Dont have the magna anymore sold it to my brother. And never had any dramas with Cops (no bonnet ribs cut). Was running K&N Pod from intake (thus positioning of vent) but then got from America the K&N CAI which places it in behind your front left driving light. Can send you more pics if you want. Oh SSV is where i got mine from bloddy in 1998.

i'd be more looking into the monaro type ones IF i were to go with the twin vent type. It would match my grille i'm currently working on..
would anyone know where I could find this for a reasonable type? one a bit like shown in the pics displayed within a link in an earlier post...

Just go to the wreckers that stock classic fords like xr-xt-xw-xy-xa-xb-xc etc etc. Then find a xb with the right bonnent and buy that for like 50 bucks . then cut out the buldge and graph it to your bonnent.
