View Full Version : Dash Speakers, TR, what fits?
Hey guys, I'm new here so forgive me if I make any little mistakes :D
Basically, we've got a TR Exec Sedan (what we call a 2nd Gen?) which is still using the stock AM/FM Radio cassette, which I'm sure all of you are aware is a touch rubbish (well a lot rubbish).
What I want to know is what can I put directly in place of the 4" speakers in the dash, as I don't want to touch the door trims. Its not going to be a thumping system, just one that can cope with a new headunit and sound alright at the same time.
I've currently got some 4" Pioneer speakers fitted to my Corolla which have a mounting depth of 42mm and sound alright, would a pair of these fit the dash in the TR? I'm presuming a pair of 6x9" should fit perfectly on the parcel shelf for rear audio.
Thanks guys.

Well, you can upgrade the 4"s If they dont fit, just cut the plastic off around it.
Although as i tell everyone, its not worth screwing around for.
If you got some 6.5"s and some KS verada Door pods, it'd look and sound much better, without too much effort and retaining a door pocket.
Thanks for the reply.
I've done a little research before settling here to ask the questions, and from what I can find the A/C duct runs just under the speakers. What I want to find is a direct replacement, something I don't have to cut the dash up to fit.
I don't have any speakers for it yet, the Pioneer system in the Corolla is staying in the Corolla, so I'd be buying new for the Magna.
I do understand putting 6" or 6.5" in the doors will sound better, but I don't want to play with the doors at all, I just want to swap the fronts for new ones and fit some rear speakers. It'll be rare for them to ever be run at a volume you couldn't easily talk over, so 4" in the front will be sufficient.
Does anyone know the actual maximum mounting depth in the dash?
Cheers

Ah. M4DDOG put some in successfully in his 2nd gen, might wanna throw him a PM?
For all i know You'll just have to find a 4" speaker that is very slender

Cheers, will do, as soon as I work out how to search users :P
I remember reading somewhere I think Megavox do a direct replacement specific for the TR/TS, but I've never heard of them as a brand nor are they easy to find, so hopefully I'll be able to find something else.
Thanks again for your help TUFFTR.

It's about an inch deep, you may as well cut it, because any aftermarket speaker in there is going to be **** at that depth.
I suppose I could look into changing the door pockets, provided of course they won't get in the way of the window winders. Where do I look for Verada pockets? eBay doesn't have anything.

Wreckers will help you there, look for any veradas or SE/Elite models. You can unscrew the door pods, you'll need the speaker spacers (mounts) from under the door trims too. Failing that, just get the whole door card, but you'll probably end up with a set of power window switches lol Also, door pods don't get in the way of the window winders, I have a set on my exec :)
